Spur Point Battery

A gun emplacement and timber magazine were built here in 1885, later replaced by more permanent concrete construction. The gun was a 64-poundr RML, the only one of the type installed in Lyttelton. After decommissioning (presumably around 1904 when all RML guns were declared obsolete), the gun remained on site for decades afterwards. The magazine continued to be used for storing explosives into the 1940s. The site was demolished about 1958 as part of the port reclamation.
