Bay of Islands - Russell Battery

The second battery built at the Bay of Islands. Construction began in January 1942 and both guns were mounted in April. The design was similar to the emplacements at Castor Bay, but the concrete frying pan cover was deleted from the design. Instead local hardwood timbers were used, covered with asphalt and sod.

The battery went into Care and Maintenance in September 1943 and the guns were removed later that year or early in 1944.
