Erskine Point Battery

Erskine battery was built in 1890. It was initially intended to mount a 64pdr RML but a 7-inch RML gun was installed instead. The battery was upgraded in 1891 and a gunners cottage was built on site. The battery was presumably abandoned after 1904 when the gun was declared obsolete. The gun remained on site until 1934 when it was cut up for scrap, but the barrel was tipped over the side of the cliff and is now at TS Cornwall at Redcliffs.

The magazine was blown up in the 1960s by the local council, but the gun emplacement itself remains and is publicly accessible.
