64-pdr Converted RML
Bore: 6.3-inch (RML)
Range: 3,300 yards
In service: 1885-1897 (some remained on site till 1911)
Number in Service: 8
The 64-pounder converted gun was a rifled muzzle-loading gun converted from obsolete smoothbore 8-inch shell guns. Four were placed on Mount Victoria in Auckland and two were emplaced at the Low Battery on Point Gordon in Wellington. These guns were pretty obsolete when emplaced and saw very little service. Today, three are apparently at the National Army Museum at Waiouru and a fourth is at HMNZS Philomel in Auckland.
