9.2-inch Mk-XV

Bore: 9.2-inch

Range: 30,000 yards

In service: 1944-1957

Number in Service: 4

Purchased during World War Two, the 9.2 inch guns were standard coastal defence armament throughout the British Empire. Originally plans were made for nine guns to be purchased, but the order for three was eventually cancelled leaving the three completed forts with only two guns each. Plans for three to be installed around Lyttelton never went beyond a basic survey. The guns were scrapped in the late 1950s and no examples remain in New Zealand.
