Rerewahine Battery

Construction of a two gun battery was begun in 1941 at the site, building emplacements, war shelters, searchlight emplacements, observation post, plotting room, access tunnel and camp buildings. The guns had overhead covers added to the emplacements in March 1942.

One gun were relocated in early 1944 to Taiaroa Head, placed in a temporary emplacement in front of the disappearing gun. The second gun was removed in 1945.

The battery is now on private land, but tours can be arranged.
