1) DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POTENTIOMETER VS ENCODER

There are two type of "Knob" controls used on NCE, SYSTEM ONE and RAMTRAX throttles/Cabs.

POT: This is the control used in many cabs/throttles that support the "POT" or Potentiometer. The "POT" control is easily identified mechanically has have physical stops in it rotation. The left stop is for zero speed and the right stop is for full speed. It is the same type of control used in electronic DC throttles that use a Knob for speed control. It feels like a traditional volume control knob on a stereo system.

ENCODER: This is the control used in many cabs/throttles that support an encoder. The "Encoder" control is easily identified mechanically has having NO physical stops in any direction of rotation.

Rare Cab. NCE and Wangrow version are 100% identical.

Available only in POT format.

Cab04P = POT

Cab04E = ENCODER

Wangrow WCT-31 cab is the same as the first generation Cab04P.

First generation cabs have dip switches in battery compartment that set cab address. They also have a GREEN LED instead of a Red one.

Available in both POT and ENCODER Format.

Some ProCabs

used a 20K ohm POT value. A 10K ohm POT value will work just fine in those cabs.

MasterCab is a ProCab

There is no model designation to tell you if the throttle has a ENCODER or POT for the thumbwheel. Only early production units has POT controls installed. NCE later standardized on the ENCODER for all ProCabs.

Ramtrax is out of business. Cab was only offered in the first generation design. Licensed the design from Wangrow.

EXAMPLE OF READING THE PART NUMBERS ON THE PARTS:

Printed on the side of the part are some numbers like this:

811M Mexico

This only tells you it is a 3310 series potentiometer, right angle (C), resistance value is 10K (103).

Looking at the datasheet for the part while going over it with a visual inspection would show that it has a flatted shaft, 12.7mm shaft length and 6.35mm Bushing. (101) The full part number would be 3310C-101-103L.
