McGill Tournament 22-23

Dear Coach,

On behalf of the McGill Debating Union we are pleased to invite you to our upcoming 64th annual High School Debating Championships. Following is important information regarding this year’s tournament:

Date: Friday October 21st to Saturday October 22nd, 2022

Location: McGill campus

Registration fee: $95 per debater, $190 per team (registration waivers available on a needs basis)

Registration Deadline: October 3rd, 2022

Team Cap: 4 teams per school, 2 debaters per team, Capped at 100 teams total

Format:

The tournament will consist of five rounds of British Parliamentary impromptu debate, semi-finals, junior finals, and grand finals. This tournament will not include a prepared round.

Registration:

Registration will be open on Wednesday September 21st, 2022 at precisely 4:00pm EDT and will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. The form to register can be found here:https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfZYo7BEuFOLNHz43g9F6OLpAyAWVDRNh7ORCjZWT OBdf_PMg/viewform?usp=sf_link

The deadline to register is October 10th, 2022 at midnight. We recommend that you register as soon as possible as spots fill up quickly. Schools are permitted to register up to four teams initially, and may submit additional teams who will be placed on the waiting list. We will be emailing teams back as they successfully book spots, along with providing a public spreadsheet of spot reservations and waitlist positions in the days following the opening of registration.

Teams from the waiting list may be permitted to attend if the tournament registration cap for the tournament is not met by October 3rd, 2022.

We will try to accommodate as many teams as possible. Following this intimation, we request that you send names of the debaters attending the tournament by Monday, October 17th, 2022. This information is to be submitted via a google form which will be sent to institutions which successfully reserve spots.

Payment:

To secure your spot, please send your full registration payment via Paypal to mcgill.debating@gmail.com by the registration deadline as well. We are also able to accept payments through cheque. We are working on setting up payment through e-transfer, details forthcoming. If you cannot make any of these payment methods, please send us an email and we will figure out another option. The payment deadline is October 10th, 2022.

Registration fees will be used to reserve rooms, purchase food, acquire high-quality judging, registration waivers, and help fund the McGill Debating Union’s club activities for the year. If teams have difficulty paying the registration fee, please send us an email at mcgilldebating.highschool@gmail.com after you’ve received a confirmation email and we’ll be able to provide registration waivers.
