Time: Thursday, May 31, 2018. Registration will be from 5 until 5:30 PM.There will be 2 prepared rounds. The tournament should end at around 8 PM. Students should have eaten before attending – dinner will not be provided. There will be snacks provided between rounds.
Who can take part: This tournament is open to any Grade 6 or Grade 7 debaters, and to those Grade 8’s who are in their first year of inter- school debating and who have not gone to any competitions outside of Manitoba like the Jr Nationals (check if you are uncertain)
Location: St. John’s-Ravenscourt School, 400 South Drive
Resolution: "Be it resolved that all classes should be streamed according to ability”This resolution must be defined in a straightforward manner. Teams will debate both sides.
Speaking times will be a maximum of 6 minutes for constructive speeches and 3 minutes for rebuttals. There is no
minimum time. Heckling, points of order and points of information are not allowed.
Schools may send a maximum of 3 teams. Depending upon numbers, it may be possible to send additional teams. If you would like to do so, please indicate this on the form and I will let you know on May 28. Schools must bring one judge per team. If you do not have copies of the rules, they are available on the MSDA website at www.sjr.mb.ca/debate/
