Jr Novice Provincials

Grades 6, 7 and Novice 8’s

Time: Tuesday, May 23, 2017. Registration will be from 4:45 until 5:15. There will be 2 prepared rounds of Parliamentary debate. The tournament should end around 8:30 pm. Snacks will be provided between rounds but unfortunately we cannot provide a full dinner. Judges briefing begins at 5:15 PM.

Location: St. John’s-Ravenscourt, 400 South Drive

Resolution: This House would abolish the senate. If you have any doubts about your definition, please contact John Robinson at manitobadebate@gmail.com . Teams will debate both sides.

This tournament is open to Grade 6, 7 and novice Grade 8. Novice 8’s are grade 8 students who were not in tournaments prior to the 2016-17 academic year.

Speaking times will be a maximum of 6 minutes for constructive speeches and 3 minutes for rebuttals. There is no minimum time. Heckling and Points of Information are not allowed. There will NOT be an open category at this tournament.

Schools may send a maximum of 3 teams. Depending upon numbers, it may be possible to send additional teams. If you would like to do so, please indicate this on the form and we will let you know after

May 18th. Schools must bring one judge per team. If you do not have copies of the rules, they are available on the Manitoba Speech and Debate Association website.
