Sr Prov St Mary's

Senior High Provincial Debating Championships

Time: Wednesday, April 18th, 2012. Registration will be from 4:15 until 4:45. Dinner will not be provided so competitors and judges should eat before the tournament. There will be 3 rounds (1 impromptu round and 2 prepared) of Parliamentary debate. The tournament should end around 9 PM. Judges briefing begins at 5 PM. There will not be a novice category at this tournament because this is the Provincials.

Location: St. Mary's Academy. Due to construction, you will need to enter through the gym entrance to the cafeteria rather than the foyer.

Resolution: This house would repeal the Indian Act.

If you have any doubts about your definition, please contact Jordan Burg at jburg@shaw.ca. Teams will debate both sides. There will also be an impromptu round that will run prior to the prepared rounds with the topic announced 30 minutes before the debate.

Speaking times will be a maximum of 6 minutes for constructive speeches and 3 minutes for rebuttals. There is no minimum time. Heckling is not allowed.

Schools may send a maximum of 3 teams. Depending upon numbers, it may be possible to send additional teams. If you would like to do so, please indicate this on the form and we will let you know on April 16. Schools must bring one judge per two-person team. If you do not have copies of the rules, they are available on the Manitoba Speech and Debate Association website at https://sites.google.com/site/manitobadebate/home

Please fill in the attached form and email it to Jordan Burg at jburg@shaw.ca by April 14th.
