2024-2025 Formal Tournament Schedule

All tournaments will be in-person unless stated otherwise. Until the invitations are posted, all dates are tentative. More tournaments will be added as we hear about them.  


Schools can also take part in smaller (3 school) tournaments in the MSDA Debate League. These do not appear in this schedule. Please follow this link for more information. 


Junior Events (Grade 9 and under) are in red

Senior Events (Grades 10-12) are in blue

 National Events are in black

Styles of Debate tournaments:  BP means that the tournament uses British Parliamentary Debating Style, i.e. 2 two-person teams on each side). CX means that the tournament uses Cross- Examination style. World Schools means World School style with 3 person teams. All other tournaments are Manitoban parliamentary style, i.e. 1 two-person team on each side. The rules are available in the rules section of the website

Sunday, October 6- Junior & Senior Provincial British Parliamentary Debate Qualifier (Junior Grades 8 & 9) and (Senior Grades 10-12)  at St. John's-Ravensourt School (Qualifier for the 2024 Canadian British Parliamentary Debate Nationals  Tentatively Nov. 15 - 17 in Toronto)

October 14 - 20,  National Debate Seminar in Fredericton

October 16 - 21 International Independent Schools Public Speaking Competition at Saltus Grammar School and The Bermuda High School, Bermuda (ISPSL League Members)

Thursday, November 5 - Jr Tournament at Bison Run School

November 29 - December 1 - Canadian British Parliamentary Debate Nationals (Junior & Senior) in Toronto (Tentative) (Manitobans qualify through the Provincial BP tournaments at St. John's-Ravencourt School on October 6

Wednesday, November 27 - Maples Collegiate Tournament (Grades 9-12)  Debate Tournament

Sunday, December 8 - Rupert's Land Debate & Public Speaking Tournament at Balmoral Hall - qualifier for the National Public Speaking Championships in February 

Sunday, January 12- Jr Douglas Campbell  Provincial Public Speaking Tournament at St. Mary's Academy, qualifier for Jr High Speech Nationals (Tentatively in May in Vancouver)

Tuesday, January 28  - Jr Impromptu Tournament at Acadia Junior High School 

Feb  8-10 - Sr National Public Speaking Championships at St. John's-Ravenscourt School (Qualify through Rupert's Land)

Wednesday, February 26 - Sr Douglas Campbell Public Speaking at St. Maurice School

Sunday, March 2 -Asper Cup Sr. Provincial Debating Championships at Gray Academy

Sunday, March 8,  Jr Provincial Debating Championships at Balmoral Hall 

Thursday, March 20  - 24th Annual Angus Ried Cross-Examination Debate Tournament at St. Paul's High-School

April 29 -  St. Mary's Academy Marion Cup Tournament
