O see what love
(REVERENCE)
(REVERENCE)
O see what love dwells in the Father,
that he sent his Son -
to seek the rebel and the wanderer
showing kindness to each one!
Then all our wretchedness, all the debt of guilt
we could not pay
our Lord Jesus Christ carried to the cross:
we were rescued that day.
And after rising, he ascended
to his Father's throne:
our faithful guide till life is ended
and eternity begun!

These are words I wrote in around 1998 when I heard a tune of John's which he had called REVERENCE. They were a reflection on the first part of a verse from the first letter of John the apostle - chapter 3 verse 1:
"See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are." (English Standard Version)
As I remember, this text was the subject of a talk at Goldings Church, and the truths the song contained were among those the minister drew from the one verse - a glimpse into the wonder of the gospel!
