Jesus Christ has risen
(FESTIVAL)
(FESTIVAL)
1 Jesus Christ has risen,
The victor over sin:
heaven’s door is open
and we may enter in.
He came from God his Father
to set his people free,
dying as a ransom
for love of you and me.
2 Jesus has arisen,
and in his worthy name
we can be forgiven,
released from guilt and shame.
He rose from death triumphant
to sit at God's right hand;
there his prayers uphold us
and in his grace we stand.
3 Christ the Lord has risen
and death has lost its sting;
now, throughout his kingdom,
let alleluias ring!
So may we live to serve him
and make his gospel known:
peace from God, and mercy
are outs through Christ alone.
4 Jesus Christ has risen!
We’ll fear not, but look up:
God has sent his Spirit
to give us joy and hope;
our guide through doubts and setbacks,
who guarantees to bring
all who love and trust him
to reign with Christ the King!

Jesus Christ is risen! Let all believers sing
So began this Easter 1987 hymn, a text which appeared first in 'Treasures old and new' (1989), and then in 'Time to Celebrate' (1999) with the heading 'Time to praise our risen Saviour'. Since then the words have become a little more regulated and - hopefully - a little less instructional in style and more a response of praise.
The name of John's tune is FESTIVAL (but see the source notes for 'Jesus Christ is on the way'). The original name was RESURRECTION, music composed for an Easter hymn, 'Rise my soul and stretch thy wings’ (Robert Seagrace born 1693).
