Listen to the words of Jesus
(ALL THINGS NEW)
(ALL THINGS NEW)
1 Listen to the words of Jesus:
"I am making all things new!"
Far beyond all speculation
we shall find his promise true
when he brings us home at last,
death and pain and sorrow past.
2 Let us come into God's presence
by a new and living way:
there the risen Son is seated
at his Father's side today.
Purified from all our sin,
boldly let us enter in.
3 Following his new commandment,
loving others in his name,
may we all enjoy his friendship
and resolve to show the same.
Then together we shall see
how his love sets people free.
4 Now we are his new creation,
rescued, pardoned and restored.
Let us celebrate our freedom,
representing Christ our Lord.
He defeated sin and strife,
crushing death to bring us life.
5 Daily as we travel onwards
let us trust the Lord to guide,
sure that, through his tender mercy,
all we need will be supplied.
May his Spirit give us light,
shining in our darkest night.
6 Let us sing new songs of worship
even through uncertain days,
may the peace and love of Jesus
still our hearts and stir our praise:
all he promised he will do:
Earth and Heaven shall be new!

The theme of the first service of 1999 at Goldings Church Loughton was on the motto taken from Revelation 21:5 - "Look, I am making all things new!". We were presented with many examples both of the things we already enjoy and of what we can expect to inherit, all through the mercy of God, the grace of Christ and the sustaining power of the Holy Spirit, and These topics became the sub-themes of 6 verses. There is promise for the future without sin or pain or sorrow, there is a new and living way into God's very presence, a new commandment to transform our fellowship, a new creation for every child of God, there are mercies new every morning and new songs to sing.
The words were originally set to ALL SAINTS (DARMSTADT GESANGBUCH), but in 1999 we suddenly found that a new tune was needed because the hymn was about to be included in the collection "Time to Celebrate", and by mistake John had been cited as its composer. Then ALL SAINTS (Turl), was promptly supplied, and eventually this became ALL THINGS NEW, a tune with West African echoes.
