Shelter me from the wind
(LOUGHOR)
(LOUGHOR)
1 Shelter me from the wind,
O Lord my God, when fears are haunting me;
in your protection let me find
complete tranquillity.
2 Father, from violent storms
be my defender, be my hiding-place;
hold me, enclose me in your arms,
content me with your grace.
3 Like a refreshing stream
in my dry desert heart where nothing grows,
O Spirit, pour your life within
till my life overflows.
4 And as the shadow vast
of a huge rock across a weary land,
O may your cross, Lord Jesus, cast
its shade on burning sand.
5 Make me a shelter, too,
a refuge as the tempests wildly beat;
may I bring others life from you
and shield them from the heat.

This lyric, which began back in 1983 as a poem, was based on Isaiah chapter 32 verse 2. I had taken the words as applying to us all, although they were initially directed to people in authority:
"Each will be like a hiding place from the wind,
a shelter from the storm,
like streams of water in a dry place,
like the shade of a great rock in a weary land." (ESV)
Gill Berry composed her tune in 1999 and called it LOUGHOR after the town in Wales where she and her family were on holiday at the time. They had been staying just near the train station, and discovered that a tragic rail-crash had occurred there in 1904. and it was among that devastated community that many people were wonderfully touched soon afterwards by the Holy Spirit when a Christian revival broke out, spreading all through that country and beyond.
