It was night
(REBORN)
(REBORN)
1 It was night and the people had left the city streets
when a Jewish leader came,
for he wanted with Jesus in secrecy to meet -
Nicodemus was his name.
"Sir, we know you're a Teacher sent down to us from God
for your actions have made it plain."
Jesus answered "The Kingdom of God you cannot see -
not without being born again."
2 Just as when Moses had lifted up the snake
all who would look could live,
Jesus our Saviour was lifted up for us
healing from sin to give.
God had such love for the world that he had made,
he gave his only Son,
so all believers in him would never die
but life eternal own.
3 It was time for the lambs to be offered by the priests,
when the holy Son of God
like a guilty offender was nailed to a cross,
bringing cleansing through his blood.
There is no other Lamb who can take away our sins,
as our Lord in our hearts to reign,
for believing in Christ, who has suffered in our place,
is the way to be born again.

Lyric Video:
The account of the religious leader searching to know the truth about Jesus and seeking an interview with him under cover of darkness is an arresting one. The lyrics of this song- written to a wordless tune which John had composed - relates some of the conversation, and connects it with the fulfilment of Jesus's words about the serpent being lifted up so that all who looked might have everlasting life. Nicodemus was present at the end and confident enough to join Joseph of Arimathea in taking the crucified Jesus and embalming and burying his body. Clearly the claims he heard at that secret meeting had led him too look to the Messiah and live.
