1 Not by might and not by power

we accomplish something new:

by your Spirit, Lord almighty,

as we give ourselves to you,

that’s when we shall see more clearly,

serve and please you better too.

Lord, our slow response arouse,

may your Spirit wake us!

2 Humbly sitting on a donkey

God’s Messiah Son, you came,

chose an untrained colt to ride on,

died upon a cross of shame.

Still you choose unworthy people,

hearts forgiven, faith aflame.

Lord, as stones to make your house

may your Spirit build us!

3 Not by any human power

or insisting we are right;

only by your Spirit's fire

can your church be set alight:

constantly your love is flowing -

joy and peace to make us bright.

Lord, as we pass on the news,

may your Spirit lead us!

studies in Zechariah at Goldings Church in around 1997 revealed some truths very relevant to the Christian community, the living temple of Christ today, as it grows and reaches out to perplexed and/or disillusioned people - with the Holy Spirit directing the proceedings. Once again I fitted my verses to a tune which John composed just at the right time for me to use it.
