Dear Parents,

Welcome to Week 8! I’ve had the pleasure of learning more and reading about your students through their All About Me pages. I cannot wait to share the entire class book with you. Your students are extremely proud of their work and being able to talk about themselves!

Your students have been doing an amazing job learning French. Every student is also able to count by rote from 0-10, use the sentence structures “je suis” “c’est” and “je vois”, greet each student, and retell in broken French the stories that we’re reading in class. Ask them to tell you about the stories!

I will be at a district curriculum writers’ meeting on Wednesday, Mme U will be our substitute.

Here’s a breakdown of our week:

French:

We will be working on the letter M. It has the same name and makes the same sound as in English.

We will see:

  • une montagne – mountain – pronounced: une mown-tan-yuh

  • le matin – morning – pronounced: luh mah-tun

  • un domino – domino – pronounced: un doh-mee-no

  • une maison – house – pronounced: une may-zone

  • un monstre – monster – pronounced: un mown-struh

  • un mur – wall – pronounced: un mew-er

  • une moto – motorcycle – pronounced: une mow-tow

We will complete letter writing, sound isolating, syllable clapping, and syllable identifying activities. We continue to learn to read through syllables: ma, me, mi, mo, mu, mé and we will be working on “mon” and “ma” as sight words.

We continue to learn to differentiate between masculine and feminine nouns.

We will continue to work on the three sentence frames we know, in reading and writing:

  • C’est… (almost all students can read and write this independently!)

  • Je suis… (some of students can read and write this independently!)

  • Je vois... (we’re working on reading and writing this independently)

We’re adding “J’ai” which mean “I have”

Book: Max et les maximonstres (Where the Wild Things Are). Here’s a digital copy of the book that the students are able to read and watch at home.

Math:

7 is this week’s number. We continue to add and learn about addition properties. Yes, your students are learning property names.

Art:

  • We will focus on rose aka pink.

  • We’ll be using geometric shapes to make an artwork
