Dear Parents,

Welcome to Week 25! I hope everyone had a restful 3-day weekend. A huge THANK YOU! to Liza and Axelle for their help on Friday for our Valentine's Day events. I hope all of the students enjoyed the goodies that they received. The students who were absent will be able to have their goodie bags tomorrow.

We are in full assessment mode. Thank you for reviewing with your students as we will continue to do a lot of reviewing in class: addition, colors, sight words, letter names and sounds, number names and representation, parts of a book – title/author, sequencing a story, using classroom vocabulary, and writing.

I will be at a district meeting on Wednesday; Mme Bollier will be the substitute. On Thursday, we will be filming with a green screen of our Little Red Riding Hood stories – super exciting!

The latest construction update is that we’ll be moving to the new building early March. I would greatly appreciate the help of a few parents to help me pack/unpack, if possible! Please let me know if you can help!

Here’s the breakdown of our week:

French:

We will be learning the letter J this week. It’s letter name is “Gee” and makes the same sound as in English. Here are the words we will be seeing:

  • Des jouets – toys – day joo-ay

  • Un jardin – garden – un jar-dahn

  • Des jumelles – twins or binoculars – day ju-mel

  • Le jus – juice – luh ju

  • Jonglage and jongler – juggling or to juggle – jong-lage or jong-lay

  • Le jambon – ham – jahm-bone

  • Une jambe – leg – jahmb

We work on reading syllables, ja, je, ji, jo, ju, jou, jon. We continue writing our common sentence starters: “je suis”, “c’est”, “je vois”, “j’aime”, “il est”, “elle est”, “je vais” and “je joue”. I have been encouraging students to write “paragraphs”, forming at least 3 sentences with the same subject, describing the object, if possible.

Sight words: So far, we have learned: C’est, je, suis, le, la, il, elle, ma, mon, comme, ici, vais, joue, pour, fais, un, une, and dans.

Book: We’re reading a variety of stories this week as we’re going through assessments.

Math:

We continue with addition and subtraction and reviewing all of our number names and what it represents.

Homework explanation:
