Post date: Dec 06, 2015 11:15:17 PM

12/7/15

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Week 17! Thank you to everyone for bringing in ingredients for our class stone soup. Surprisingly, not many students enjoyed the soup, despite the excitement and anticipation for how good it smelled. Thank you to Juliette Norman (Jaxon's mom) who came and helped with the soup. An e-book will be coming shortly with our Stone Soup experience.

There are SO MANY things going on in the next two weeks, I hope you’ll be able to join us for them! This week, our entire school will participate in the international Hour of Code. Check this out http://hourofcode.com/us for more information.

Monday, we will practice singing for our show with all four French classes in the afternoon. EXCITING!

Tuesday, Mrs. Garcia and I will be switching classes after English. She will be coming in to teach our class about Hanukkah along with Mme Moine’s class. The students will enjoy a Hanukkah story read by Victoria Krol, a 5th grade student, and make a 3-D dreidel.

Thursday, we will be completing our Hour of Code.

Our Winter show is scheduled for next Thursday, 12/17 at 11:15. Please make sure that your child is wearing a RED top! They can wear any bottom of their choice. Santa/Reindeer/Holiday hats are allowed, too! To make the event more festive, you are welcome to sign up to bring in an item for the potluck following the performances.

Here’s a breakdown of our week:

We will be learning the letter B this week. It is pronounced “Bay” makes the same sound and is pronounced the say way as in English. Here are the words we will be seeing:

  • Un bébé – baby – un bay-bay

  • Une baleine – whale – une ba-lehne

  • Un beurre – butter – un bur

  • Le ballon – ball – un bah-lon

  • Les bulles – bubbles – lay buuul-luh

  • Des bottes – boots – day bots

  • Une boîte – box – un bwot

  • Une banane – banana – une ba-na-nuh

  • Un bateau – boat – un ba-tow

We work on reading syllables, ba, be, bi, bo, bu, bé, bou, bon. We continue writing our common sentence starters: “je suis”, “c’est”, “je vois”, “j’aime”, “j’ai”, “le/la _ est_.” “il est” and “elle est”.

We’re trying hard to differentiate between masculine and feminine words in order to use the correct form of description: “il est…” and “elle est…” “un” or “le” = masculine, “une” or “la” = feminine.

Book Noël de Sapin and La robe de Noël, two different stories about Christmas trees. We also be continue to read informational texts on pine trees and will watch a few videos.
