Dear Parents,
Welcome to Week 31! We’ve got a pretty awesome week coming up with all sorts of excitement. With the introduction to the farm, we will be learning about farm animals this week in addition to putting on our scientist hats and continue with our science experiments and other projects.
Franklin's annual Open House is on Thursday! You should have received information about it in Thursday folders... but just in case, the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new building will be at 4pm. Classroom visits start at 6pm.
I am out of the classroom on Thursday due to a district meeting (but will be here in the evening) and on Friday due to a conference. Mme U will be our sub for both days. FRIDAY IS A MINIMUM DAY with dismissal at 11:42!! There is no lunch. Please make sure you pack your student a big snack!
French:
We are working on the letters “W” and “X”. It is pronounced “dooobluh vay” (double V) and “eeeeks” and they make the same sound as in English. W in French can also make the “vvvv” sound. Your student will watch the video on how to write W and X. We will be learning the following words, which can be seen in video.
Un wagon – train car, or a wagon
Un wapiti – a type of elk
Le wifi – wi-fi. (we do live in a technological world!)
Un xylophone – xylophone
Un texte – written words
Un taxi – taxi
Un saxophone - saxophone
Sight words: So far, we have learned: C’est, je, suis, le, la, il, elle, ma, mon, comme, ici, vais, joue, pour, fais, un, une, dans, moi, toi, et and au.
Book: We’ll be reading a few non-fiction books on farm animals.
Math:
We continue to become more fluent with adding/subtracting, composing/decomposing, and counting by 1s, 5s, and 10s.
Science:
Last week, we planted 4 different types of seeds: black beans, wild flowers, cat grass, and regular grass. We’ll be making observations to see how it grows in the next few days.
We also started a plant experiment. We know that plants need light, air, and water, but how long does it take/what actually happens when a living plant is deprived of these items? Does it make a difference to have one but not the other? We’ll be making some observations.
Homework explanation.
Please be sure to read with your child so that they can practice reading their French words with you.
Please read at least 20 minutes per day with your student.
Have a discussion with your child about plants, farms, and where food comes from. What happens when food is rotten, goes to waste, and why we need to be eco-friendly
Reminders:
Please make sure you sign your child’s behavior log every day.
Library time will be Tuesday at 8:30. Please remember to pack your student’s book in the Ziploc bag.
Open House is THIS THURSDAY at 6pm. COME and visit our class and the other French or Kinder classes. It's a chance for your students to show off the beautiful work they've done. It's also a chance for you to check out the new classroom/building!
Friday is a minimum day with dismissal at 11:42.
