Dear Parents,

Welcome to Week 14! Today marks the start of Trimester 2 with a short week. There is no school on Wednesday to observe Veteran’s Day and Friday is a minimum day with dismissal at 11:42. We will not have lunch, so please be sure to pack an extra large snack!

We started music with Zaïa three weeks ago. We have music class with her every Wednesday after English, from 12:45 – 1:15. I have an updated class schedule for those of you who would like to know our daily events. Sadly, our gardening class with Miss Kristina will come to an end in December.

I will be sending a separate e-mail about our preparation for Stone Soup and butter making for next Friday, 11/20, as we wrap up November (WHAT! It’s crazy!)

Samatha Shahani, Alekha’s mother, will be sharing an Indian holiday, Diwali, with our class on Friday. The students will watch this video in class:

Here’s a breakdown of our week:

French:

We will be learning the letter T this week. It is pronounced “tay” and makes the sound as it does in English. We will be seeing the following words:

  • un timbre – stamp – pronounced: un tum-bruh

  • une tomate – tomato – pronounced: une toe-mah-t

  • une tasse – tea cup – pronounced: une tah-ss

  • une tulipe – tulip – pronounced: une tu-leep

  • une table – table – pronounced: une tah-bluh

  • une tartine – open face sandwich – pronounced: une tar-teen

  • une tente – tent – pronounced: une tawn-t

This story is about an old wolf that brings together an entire village of animals while making stone soup. We will be learning about farm animals and names of vegetables with this story.

We continue to work on main characters, setting, predictions, sequencing, and unanswered questions.

Math:

  • We’ll be working on 11 this week, continuing with our skills to compose/decompose numbers and working with base-ten.

  • We will also be categorizing pictures into three categories.

Art:

  • We will be making a cornucopia for Thanksgiving.

Comptine:

  • We will be learning a holiday song for our Winter Show: Noël c’est comme un rythme de jazz.

Homework explanation:

  • Check: classroom.google.com and sign in using your student's Google account. Read the e-book, watch the T writing video, practice typing on the typing sheet (Save as a copy, so that your student can type on it). Practice writing the syllables on laminated sheet throughout the week.

  • Read for 20 minutes daily. Make predictions and talk about unanswered questions.

Reminders:

  • Please make sure you sign your child’s behavior log every day.

  • Science Fair participation form goes live on Sunday If your student is interested in completing a project, be sure to fill out a form online!

  • Friday is a minimum day with dismissal at 11:42. THERE IS NO LUNCH! PLEASE PACK AN EXTRA LARGE SNACK!

  • Library time is 8:30 on Tuesdays. Please make sure your student brings back their book in the Ziploc bag

  • I will be out of the classroom next Mon/Tues (11/16-17) – I had been invited to speak at a conference. Mme Bollier will be our substitute for those two days.

  • Save the date: Thursday, December 17, is our annual Winter Show at 11:15. It will be followed by a French department potluck. Sign ups to come!
