The template includes the shapes shown above for quick and easy design creation. The shapes above come from the fonts listed at the bottom of the page under Source. The fonts are free to download from www.dafont.com. For commercial use, please visit the download page to check the license.
Download 5 inch by 4 inch template
The template is the size of the face of a 5" x 4" card and intended for a piece of vinyl.
(Additionally, you can download 2 4.25x5.5, which is already in DXF format. When you open it in Silhouette, group the lines before moving them around. The red line should be centered so as to cut a letter-sized sheet of paper in half.)
Copy One Shape
Use Copy and Paste to bring a flower or heart shape from Hearts and Flowers to the blank template. Copy and Paste can be used by Right-Clicking, or opening the Edit menu option.
Add Text
Use the Text Tool to add a short message. Click on the letter A in the Toolbar, then click in the work area. You'll see a blinking cursor. Type your short message. Go to Text > Text and Font to change the font. Thicker fonts like Rockwell, Impact, Gothic Showcard, and Bauhaus work well for this. Don't worry about size yet.
Turn Text/Object into Path
This next move means you won't be able to change it. With your text selected, go to Path > Object to Path. If you need to rearrange or resize your text, go to Object>Ungroup, then move the letters individually.
Save as SVG and DXF
Once you have arranged your shape and letters as desired, go to File > Save As. You should save in the default, SVG first. This file can be opened later and edited if you wish. Also save your file as a DXF. DXF is the file format the Silhouette Cameo Cutter will read and cut from.
