CNC: Monogram Plaque

Today you'll create a monogram plaque using browser-based Easel and a CNC router known as Carvey.

Create an Easel account

Steps in Easel

Set machine type

Go to Machine, select Carvey

Set material, material size, and bit size

Easel displays all settings in the upper right. For this project, use the above settings.

Remember: It's important to select the correct material and dimensions. For this project, we have preselected material, but in future, you may be using different material.

Material: Birch Plywood. Bit size: (from drop down) 1/16 2FL Fishtail. Material dimensions: X is 4 in. Y is 4 in. Z is 0.125 in.

Create monogram

Use the Text Tool to create a 2 or 3 letter monogram.

Text: Position and Resize as desired

Text should not overlap with Carvey's safety clamp. (Other clamps will be added later, and we'll keep an eye out for these.)

Arranging letter shapes

To separate letters so you can reposition them individually or have individual depth settings, make sure your text is selected and go to Apps>Xploder (experiment with the other apps later!).

(Optional) Add a shape

If there is space, you can try adding a shape.

Set cut depths

Set the cut depths within the range from 0” to 3/32”.

Log out and carve!

Log out of the workstation, and we'll move to the Carvey station when it's your turn!
