3D Bookmark and SketchUp

In this workshop you will be introduced to Sketch-Up, various tools in Sketch-Up, and you will learn how to prepare your design for the MakerBot Replicator 2.

Below is a bookmark created in 10 steps and printed in under 5 minutes.

Open Sketch-Up

Templates > Architectural Design -- Millimeters

Click Start Using Sketch-Up

Our toolbar is in the top.

Each time you load SketchUp, you will meet Derrick. We don't need him today, so right click and Erase him.

Let's draw our circle. We're going to use centimeters instead of inches. This eliminates converting sizes later. 1 inch is approximately 2.54cm.

Go to Tools > Offset, and add two circles inside the larger circle. It'll look something like this:

Draw a line across the circle approximately one-third of the way down.

Click on the mouth and Delete/Erase. Use the erase tool to remove the extra lines.

Now create the eye circles and delete the insides.

Add depth to the bookmark.

Group the parts of the bookmark.

File > Export as STL

Now we will open it in MakerWare and prepare to print your first original design!
