Sometime in 2005, someone posted these images taken from a Japanese Fan Mag to ZoidsFans. I think the magazine was running some kind of contest for Blox kit combinations. I found this Styracosaurus rather interesting.
The Styracosaurus is made from BZ-008 Demon's Head, BZ-013 Cannondiver, and BZ-015 Styluarmor. Since there were no directions I had to deduce the construction from the images above.
I was disappointed with the initial result. Many of the parts did not fit well, and there were many parts left over. The body core was "floppy" because of the flexible Blox connections. I decided to remedy this by gluing together the Blox into a single unit. I used a leftover Blox motor shell to conserve 3 Blox. Note the modified Blox at the lower left for the tail, made by cutting a Blox at an angle, then rotating one half 180 degrees, then gluing the halves back together.
I glued a modified standard connector into the Styluarmor head, however the standard Blox joint proved to be much too weak. The longer connector combined with the weight of the head and horns resulted in a slow-motion head droop. I instead used a leg joint from Lord Gale, which worked much better.
This picture shows the new neck joint very well. A few minor trims were done on some of the other parts to obtain good fit.
Here is the result. Although not as good as the Minotaur, the Styracosaurus has reasonable proportions and both ranged and melee weapons. Lots of parts from the 3 kits are leftover however. Overall, not bad.
