The Tomcat is a rear-engine, six wheeled, light weight security vehicle manned by a single operator. It is designed for security and guard use in built up areas (such as cities) and has rather limited off-road capability. Thus it is lightly armed and lightly armored.
The Tomcat is armed with two autocannons, a split Streak SRM-2 and a heavy machine gun. All weapons are mounted on an overhead turret that provides 360 degrees of traverse. All guns are mounted on a trunnion that provides 0 to 35 degrees of elevation.
Computer assistance is provided to allow limited automation of piloting the vehicle or firing the weapons. Only the four rear wheels are powered.
The lightly armored cab provides full life support in hostile environments. Operators dislike the fact they can only enter and exit the vehicle when the turret is forward with guns elevated, but so far this has not caused problems in the field.
