The Anteater is a mid-engine, six wheeled, all-terrain, light mobile artillary vehicle manned by a single operator. It gets its name from the shape of the gun mantlet and barrel. The Anteater was designed to offer artillery or fire support on an inexpensive mobile chassis. The Anteater has a single large bore rapidfire autocannon mounted in a turret that provides 360 degrees of traverse and 0 to +90 degrees elevation.
A large store of ammunition is stored in the boxy platform below the turret. A slaved light machine gun, mounted on the right side of the main gun, provides local self-defense. All-wheel drive gives good moblity, although only the front wheels can steer.
Typically the vehicle is stopped and is either well concealed or in defilade before the main weapon is fired. Power outriggers can be lowered by the operator to increase accuracy. Computer assistance is provided to allow limited automation of piloting the vehicle.
The Anteater is lightly armored and the cab offers no protection in hostile environments, so the vehicle can only used in certain theatres of operation.
