At first glance, the Cobra could be the Stormcrow's little brother. Certainly the design philosophy is similar: lots of weapons of various ranges mounted on a fast chassis with minimal armor.
The Cobra tips the scales at 35 tons. Like the Stormcrow, the Cobra features an abundance of weapons to cover almost all ranges of engagement. An LRM-9 battery and a Gauss rifle cover the long ranges, while two small ER lasers, dual machine guns, and a Streak SRM-6 battery handle the middle and short ranges.
All this weaponry, especially the bulky Gauss rifle and energy weapons, is quite a load on the engine. Pre-production Cobras had inadequate engines, and so production models feature larger engines enclosed in a prominant rear overhang, as in this example. Even so, the Cobra is best suited to sniper, commando, or ambush situations, where it doesn't have to sprint and fight at the same time.
Builder Notes:
I wanted to place a gauss rifle and an aircraft nose on a light mech. This was the result. I really like the rear windshield from the Star Wars #7130 Snowspeeder, it's just the right size for this kind of project.
