Since my wife is originally from Taiwan, for our 10th wedding anniversary we decided to go there for a two week vacation. We also brought our 8 year old son along (but left our other younger two kids at home). My son and I were eager to go, not only because neither of us had ever been to Taiwan, but also because we were hoping to find more Zoids there! So in February 2003 the three of us flew the 14 hour flight from SFO to TPE.
In between the typical tourist things (Snake Alley, Marble Gorge, etc) we had a bit of time for shopping. We found the selection of Zoids in Taipai the richest at Sogos and ToysRUs, especially since we did not have time for many side trips or for a special trip to Taiwan Leo (too bad!). The prices were typical list but the lack of a shipping cost made the Zoids worth getting. On this trip I found NJR Gordos and NJR Gojulas Giga. (This was before Gojulas Giga was released in the states, and before the KayBee clearance sales.)
NJR Gordos has a tail weight that the NAR Gordos lacks. I'm not sure if it makes any difference to the walk motion. I actually found the NJR Gordos a bit underwhelming. It was straightforward classic Tomy using a motor that made him walk slowly and steadily. So I added a CP-10 to my Gordos by removing two back plates and fabricating a custom mount using old model parts and an Iron Kong missile. Now my Gordos is much better armed and looks a lot better. He preceeded Cannoneer Gordos by over a year and was much cheaper too!
