Thanks to the ToysRUs and KayBee Zoids clearance sales in late 2003 and early 2004, I was able to pick up Hasbro's Fire Phoenix for fairly cheap. I decided to paint the yellow parts on Fire Phoenix, changing them to satin red. I originally intended to combine it with Liger Zero, but then I won an auction on eBay that included a 90% complete Liger Zero X (who is missing some X armor and seven toes). So I decided to combine the two, recalling that someone mentioned the darker body colors of Liger Zero X go better with the red of Fire Phoenix.
After completion, I felt the missile and guns were too high on the body. So I decided to eliminate the row of Blox under the missile. To do this, I simply cut away the unnecessary pegs under the missile and on top of the mount, and modified one Blox under the end of the missile. Then I glued the modified parts together. The picture on the left has one gun removed to show the relationship of these modified parts more clearly. Note that the new position of the gun mounts moves the guns further back in relation to the missile, another visual plus in my opinion.
Here is a picture showing my modified version on the right, with my son's stock version on the left. Note how much lower the missile and guns are now. I also modified the mount for the neck armor, which results in lowering it by about 1/8 of an inch. All of these cutting mods took less than 30 minutes but make a big difference in my opinion.
I think the painted Fire Phoenix with Liger Zero X looks much better than the stock Fire Phoenix with Liger Zero. Now I just need to get some replacement Liger Zero X toes...
Completed, with replacement toes, and stickers applied...
