Background

"Sangrux" claims to be a follower, Devos, God of Heroic Plans and Acting. His god guides him through the acquisition of his arcane powers. He aims to spread the message of this new god to the people, spreading his presence in the minds and prayers of the people. He aspires to get at least 200,000 new followers through theatrics and heroics. His name before he found his faith is unimportant, Sangrux is here to manifest the indiosyncratic and daring expression of his god, not to seek fame for himself. He wears extravagant cloths to inspire others to join his cause. At this time he is the head of his wondering church. This is what he claims, but in reality he was born as Devos, the very god that he worships.

Devos was born a half-moon elf son of Versio Telethor, a cormanthyr moon elf male, and Idiolatra Wonderstride, a gur half-moon elf female bard in 1470 DR. Idiolatra first saw Versio in Cormanthor in 1460 DR, instantly feelling the same undeniable desire that she felt when she saw a rare elven treasure. She needed to hold him, and touch him hers. Versio, however, was a proper moon elf blade dancer and he would not mingle with a common woman, much less a half-elven woman. But this did not deter Idiolatra, for who cared what the beautiful elf wanted? There was no one that she could not make into a fool, not a king, and much less a haughty, yet beautiful elf. She infiltrated the city of Myth Drannor in Cormanthor, where Versio lived, as a moon elf noble woman from the Quivering Forest, where the elven settlement had been ravaged by dragon fire in 1306 DR.

She explained that her family had died in the dragons attack, and she had heard of the retaking of Myth Drannor from the fiends. As a noble, she believed in such noble tasks and would be obliged if the Telethors's Versio's family, would allow her to help. The Telethor's were moved by her bravery, elegance and beauty. Of course they took her in. Versio showed a shy and agreeable temperament now that she was a "proper lady." It took 10 long years of careful planning and subterfuge, but in the end Versio could not resist her.

After months of midnight trysts, Versio's seed took root in her. Perhaps, it was the pregnancy, but Idiolatra begun to feel guilty about her con. She did not say anything until the seed bore fruit. Versio was confused and ashamed, why did his son bear the markings of a human child. He was furious and devastated, he asked Idiolatra why she had betrayed him, and betrayed him for a human. Idiolatra could not hold it anymore. She told him that she had betrayed his trust, but not in the way that he thought. She dispelled her bardic magic and revealed herself as the gods had first witnessed her. Versio was stunned. "I wish you had been unfaithful. For this is beyond betrayal. You are nothing to me. Take that treacherously conceived Spawn and leave in the morning." He said 'spawn' with such punctuation that it stuck in Idiolatra's mind. Devastated she left, never to see Myth Drannor again.

She named the child 'Devos because it meant spawn in elvish. She had wanted the child to have a blessing from his father, at least he gave him a name.

Devos grew up learning the art of the confidence games. He grew adept at the games his mother would play with him, before he learned the truth about his father. When he did in 1480 DR, he tried to approach him in Myth Drannor. He managed to sneak into Myth Drannor and then attended a court function dressed as a serving hand. He introduced himself to his father, expecting the 20 years to have softened the man. But Versio looked at him coldly, "I do not know you. You are nothing to me." Then his father turned and stepped away through a magical gate. The event changed him. He decided that one day he would be someone that not even a racist elf could deny. One day he would see him genuflect before him and give him the honor he was due.

In 1487, 7 years later, while seeking ancient magic that could prove his worth to his father, Devos came upon a ancient worn tome in a ancient ruin in the Old Elven Court. Studying its almost illegible brittle pages, he learned of a ancient ritual. Reckless and not fully comprehending the ritual, he enacted its powers and beheld a dark figure emerge from the shadows before him. The figure placed a hand on Devos shoulder and whispered into his mind "Your anger feeds you my son. It will make you strong, stronger that he could imagine. Soon he will bow before you as to a God..". The words whispered their way into Devos fertile fury and blossomed there, forging him into a priest of a new message and filling him with zeal. Since then, the cloaked figure, known as "Ghundur" whispers messages to him in his thoughts and guides him along his path to power. It begins with your new Name. The eldritch god spoke it into his mind and he felt its power immediately. It was a word a word free of fate, it could be used for both horrors and heroics. 'Sagrux... Yes, this is who I am,' said Sangrux while the Ghundur's laughter caster psychic waves all around.'
