I really like art because it allows me to be original and express myself in a different way. Whenever I make art, I feel proud of myself because I put time and effort into my piece, and I always enjoy myself while doing it. Art makes me feel free to show my creativity, and I always end up surprising myself with where it took me for my final product. Art is important to society because it allows people to show their ideas and opinions in a way that is creative and can be universally understood. Art permits the artist to show how they feel about what they see, and it leaves a lasting impression on the viewer. When someone sees art, they can gain an understanding and appreciation of the artist’s point of view and personal style, and they can interpret it in their own way.

My series, Tahoe, is inspired by my dog and the Marilyn Monroe block prints by Andy Warhol. I thought the way Andy Warhol made the block prints in different colors was very interesting, and so I wanted to paint my dog in four different colors because it added a pop to my art and made it more vivid. In this series, I wanted to express how much I love my dog, Tahoe, because of how he makes me happy and always brightens up my day. I used the different colors to represent his personality and how buoyant and energetic he is. In this series, I used watercolor on mixed media paper. I used colored pencils to add depth and detail to his fur and to add darker spots to the background. I wanted my dog to have more details to make him seem more realistic, so I painted him to be slightly darker than the background, which is more faded and soft.
