This art piece is a tiny version of the base of a ski mountain and a painting of a Crystal mountain sign. I learned a lot while making this piece but I think the biggest thing I learned was that clay is very hard to work with. Although in the end, it did end up working, I had to remake my ski chair at least 3 times. I used wire on the inside of the clay, which you can still bake in an oven. Even though moments in this project were frustrating, I loved getting to come to art class more because most of the time, art is calming and peaceful. When I’m painting, I feel at peace and happy.

I was inspired by my family and our love for skiing. Every weekend my family tries to go to Crystal Mountain, and It always brings us together. This piece connects to me because I love skiing and the snow. I grew up in the mountains and I’m so grateful that I got to grow up skiing. I have been going to ski at Crystal Mountain since my family got a cabin in the area. Ever since then Crystal has become my home mountain and I know every run and little secret spots that have the best snow. This art piece is a tribute to that mountain and my family. In this art piece, I used clay, spray paint, cardboard, fake plants, cotton balls, popsicle sticks, wire, canvas, paints, and wood. I wanted you to feel community and fun because there is a huge ski community and skiing is super duper fun! I hope you enjoy it and thanks for reading this really long artist statement.
