Mirabelle

My name is Mirabelle, and I really enjoy art because there are no constraints, and you can be free to make whatever you want. When I make art I feel restful, and content. I can talk to my peers as well as create something new, and I can learn from my mistakes. During my project, I made a few mistakes, but was able to learn from them and create something new. Art is important to society because it can influence people in a new and different way, and at the same time include beauty or engaging aspects.

My art piece is about different foods you can get at a sushi restaurant. It includes sushi rolls, sashimi on rice, edamame, a rice bowl, ginger, and wasabi, as well as a soy sauce packet and chopsticks. I chose to create this because sushi is my favorite food, and I have loved it since I was very little. My goal with this project is to create an accurate - but mini - depiction of sushi. I created this piece out of clay, and to create my sashimi on rice, I would try to create a marbling effect with the clay, by mixing in a little bit of white clay with the orange or red of the sashimi, and then I cut little slits in the sashimi to make it look more realistic. Lastly, I would place it on top of a square of white clay to make it look like it’s sitting on rice. I am hoping this evokes feelings of hunger for sushi rolls or sashimi, and happiness.
