My favorite thing about art is the freedom to make mistakes. I am a perfectionist in almost all of my classes, but art class is very different. Often, mistakes seem to positively impact the art that I am working on, and sometimes the final product turns out even better than how I originally envisioned it. Another thing I love about art is that it can be so wild and crazy, but serious at the same time. I think that Divya and I worked well together because we both prefer to make big art pieces that are interesting and exciting instead of small, intricate pieces in tiny detail. When Ani first gave the introduction to this project, neither of us knew what we wanted to do, and it ended up taking me and Divya nearly a month to develop the concept of making a scaled model of the Space Needle and the Eiffel Tower.

I was inspired to complete this project because I was interested in experimenting with new materials. Yet these materials could not cost over 40 dollars, and they had to be accessible so Ani could pick them up. We settled on using cardboard, 4 cans of spray paint, and LED lights. In the beginning, Divya was working mainly on the Eiffel Tower, and I was cutting and painting the Space Needle. However, after a few weeks, we were working on the cardboard sculptures interchangeably. The final product has a rough, sandpaper-like texture from the multiple layers of glitter spray paint. Both sculptures have a lingering smell of rubbery plastic and chemicals from the spray paint. The LED lights that line the edges make the gold paint sparkle in the light. In my opinion, the final product is quite exciting, and excitement, happiness, and joy are expressed clearly through the materials we used.
