What is a Computer?

Lesson Overview

In this lesson, students model their current conception of computers using a variety of self-selected media. They explain why they believe something is a computer.

Agenda

  1. Warm-up: What is a computer? (10 minutes)
  2. Main Activity: Build, draw, or collage computers. (15 minutes)
  3. Debrief: Artifact showcase. Why do you think this is a computer? How does it work? (10 minutes)

Materials

  • Artifact Placemat (optional)
  • Assorted craft materials (e.g. colored paper, dot stickers, PlayDoh)
  • Tape, staplers, glue, scissors
