2/24/2019 Meet of Champions 0 South Brunswick 0 2 Medalists at Meet of Champs!
Sabrina Ray & Nikhila Obbineni led the way for the Vikings at the Meet of Champions on Sunday in Toms River! Both athletes earned medals for their top-8 performances. Ray medaled for the second straight year at the indoor MOC with her 4th place finish in the Pole Vault! Her leap of 11'6" is just an inch below her personal best! Obbineni ran a huge 2 second indoor personal best with her 6th place time of 2:16.82 in the 800! This marks her first individual medal at an indoor or outdoor MOC, and moves her up to #5 all-time in GMC indoor history! In addition, Chantel Osley ran an open indoor personal best of 5:15.49 in the 1600!

South Brunswick had a great night at the 85th annual Easterns in New York! The girls had one medalist and many athletes set new personal bests!
Leading the way with a 6th place performance in the Mile was Nikhila Obbineni! She ran a time of 5:07.76, which improved upon her #3 status in school history! The Distance Medley team of Chantel Osley, Samiyah Hargrove, Serena Hutchison, and Becky Hartman ran 12:40.46, with all 4 girls setting indoor personal bests on their splits! The time is #9 all-time in school history! Other personal bests were turned in by Joanna Taitt in the 200 (26.05, tied for #6 all-time in GMC indoor history), and Adwoa Ansong, who increased her best in the shot put by almost a foot with her throw of 35-5.5!

2/15/2019 Group IV State Championships 0 South Brunswick 0 Strong Showing at States!
South Brunswick finished 5th at the Group IV State Championships on Friday night, and had 5 athletes advance to the Meet of Champions! The highlight was Sabrina Ray winning her second consecutive state title in the Pole Vault! She jumped 11'0 to win a competitive battle with two other jumpers based on misses. By winning her second state title, she becomes the first girl in school history to win multiple indoor state group titles!
Nikhila Obbineni ran an indoor PR of 2:18.83 to finish 3rd in the 800! She was also part of the 5th place 4x400 relay team that ran a season-best of 4:05.29 to advance to the Meet of Champs! The team ran in the order of Joanna Taitt, Obbineni, Janai Orders, and Chantel Osley. In addition, Osley advanced to the Meet of Champs as a wildcard in the 1600 following her 8th place time of 5:17.92!

South Brunswick had a good showing at the Varsity Classic in New York on Monday night. The team had many season bests and PRs, highlighted by the Distance Medley team's performance! The team of Becky Hartman, Joanna Taitt, Chantel Osley, and Nikhila Obbineni ran 12:19.41, which is #4 all-time in school history, and #5 in the state so far this winter! The time was good for 6th place in the ultra-competitive race.

2/2/2019 Central Jersey IV Sectionals 0 South Brunswick 0 2nd at Sectionals
South Brunswick finished in 2nd at the Central Jersey IV Sectionals on Saturday in Toms River, 7.5 points behind Montgomery. The team had 2 individual champions and advanced athletes in all 10 events! Leading the way with 1st place finishes were Sabrina Ray and Nikhila Obbineni! Ray won the Pole Vault for the second straight year, and tied her PR of 11'7" in the process! Obbineni won the 800 with an indoor PR of 2:19.08, and also finished 3rd in the 1600 (5:16.21), and ran a leg on the 2nd place 4x400 team! Other medal-winning performances that qualified athletes for the Group IV State Championships are: the 2nd place 4x400 team of Joanna Taitt, Obbineni, Janai Orders, and Chantel Osley that ran a big season-best of 4:06.17; Taitt in both the 55 (3rd, 7.59 PR) and 400 (5th, 60.97); Becky Hartman in the 3200 (5th, 11:25.09 PR); Osley in the 1600 (5th, 5:24.06); Orders in the 55 Hurdles (6th, 9.05 PR); Adwoa Ansong in the Shot Put (6th, 34'6" PR); Chelsea Eltringham in the High Jump (tied for 6th, 4'10"); and Riley Ratcliffe in the 55 (6th, 7.66).

The Vikings finished in 3rd place at the State Group IV Relays on Wednesday in Toms River. The team had 3 medal-winning relay teams, and 3 others that finished in the top-8 to just miss medals.
The team had two 2nd place finishes, in the Pole Vault and Sprint Medley! In the Pole Vault, Sabrina Ray and Riley Ratcliffe combined to jump 19-6, which was a new school record for that relay! The Sprint Medley team of Chantel Osley, Ratcliffe, Janai Orders, and Nikhila Obbineni ran 4:17.70 for 2nd!
The other medal-winning relay was the Distance Medley team of Becky Hartman, Joanna Taitt, Osley, and Obbineni that ran 12:37.90 for 3rd place, which is the 5th fastest time in school history!

1/12/2019 South Brunswick 85 GMC Championships 53 GMC Champs!
The Vikings had another tremendous night in Toms River on Saturday, this time winning the GMC Championships for the 5th straight year with a commanding total of 85.25 points! The team won 2 events, scored in all 10, and had 13 athletes contribute to the scoring!
Leading the way with event victories were Nikhila Obbineni and Edith Gonzalez! Obbineni finished 1st in the 3200 with a PR time of 11:32.77, while she also finished 2nd in the 1600 with an indoor PR of 5:13.27! Gonzalez had an epic personal best throw of 36-4.25 in the shot put to win that event! Her throw was over 5 feet further than her previous personal best! Chantel Osley and Riley Ratcliffe were the other individual double-medalists. Osley had a 3rd place finish in the 800 (2:25.08), and a 5th place in the 1600 (5:16.78), to go along with a leg on the 3rd place 4x400! Ratcliffe ran a PR 7.58 in the 55 Dash for 3rd place, to go with her 6th place height of 8'0 in the Pole Vault! Other medal winners for the Vikings were: Becky Hartman, 2nd in the 3200 (11:34.72); Sabrina Ray, 2nd in the Pole Vault (10-0); Grace Boekhout-Whiting, 2nd in the 55 Hurdles (8.98); Yashika Chidirala, 4th in the 3200 (12:17.60); Joanna Taitt, 4th in the 400 (60.75); Adwoa Ansong, 5th in the Shot Put (32-7.75); Janai Orders, 5th in the 55 Hurdles (9.24); and Khushi Gupta, tied for 6th in the High Jump (4-8). 1/5/2019 South Brunswick 70 Middlesex County Relays 35 GMC Relays Champs!
South Brunswick captured its 5th straight GMC Relays Championship Saturday night in Toms River! The team won 4 of the 9 varsity events, scored 70 points, and all 38 athletes who competed (varsity & novice) earned at least one medal!
The lone Viking relay to finish 1st in the field events was the Pole Vault duo of Sabrina Ray (11'0) and Riley Ratcliffe (8'0) who jumped a combined 19'0 to tie the meet record set by another Viking tandem!
In the running events, the team finished first in the following races: the Distance Medley team of Becky Hartman, Lauren Powell, Chantel Osley, and Nikhila Obbineni which ran 12:54.29; the Shuttle Hurdle team of Janai Orders, Chelsea Eltringham, Brooke Valan, and Grace Boekhout-Whiting that ran 33.63; and the Sprint Medley team of Osley, Joanna Taitt, Ray, and Obbineni that ran 4:17.58!
The team also finished 1st in the Novice 4x200, with the team of Samiyah Hargrove, Isabel Sananes, Asha Muller, and Sanaai Johnson running a time of 1:54.21, and the Novice Shot Put with Vanessa Wish and Maddie Ianniello throwing a combined 59-3 for the win.

The Vikings set many new season bests during their trip to New York on Saturday! Highlights were the following top-6 finishes: Nikhila Obbineni, 3rd in the Varsity 800 with an indoor PR of 2:22.47; the 4th place shuttle hurdle team of Janai Orders, Chelsea Eltringham, Brooke Valan, and Grace Boekhout-Whiting that ran 37.60; Lauren Brengel, 6th in the Sophomore Triple Jump (31'10); and Sabrina Ray, 7th in the Varsity Pole Vault (10'6).

The Vikings continued their hot start to the season with a team victory in the Novice division of the Egg Club Invitational! The team had over 20 athletes earn medals, including several event victories! In the varsity division, the team finished 1st in the 4x200 relay. The team of Joanna Taitt, Lauren Powell, Janai Orders, and Riley Ratcliffe ran a time of 1:50.88 for a comfortable win. In the novice division, Brooke Valan won the 55 Hurdles in a PR of 9.65! Also in the novice division, the 4x200 team of Samiyah Hargrove, Valan, Lauren Brengel, and Asha Muller finished first with a time of 1:58.93. The other first place finish was recorded by Melanie LaCorte in the freshman high jump, with her PR height of 4'8!

The Vikings started their season off with many strong performances at the Bob James Invite held at Princeton University on Tuesday night! The team won 2 individual events: Nikhila Obbineni in the 3200 (11:44.15), and Sabrina Ray in the Pole Vault (10'0), and one relay: the 4x400 team of Joanna Taitt, Obbineni, Janai Orders, and Chantel Osley.
