3/15/2014 New Balance Indoor Nationals 0 South Brunswick 0 Relays Run Well at Nationals!

The Lady Vikings had two relays compete at the New Balance Indoor Nationals over the weekend in New York. Both the 4x200 and Shuttle Hurdles performed well, with the hurdle team setting a new school record! In the shuttle hurdles, the team of Julia Lekht, Zyjira Thomas, Khadija McDonald, and Aspen McMillan ran 34.36 to shatter the 5 Hurdle/220m school record of 36.01! The team finished 12th overall, and now owns all 3 school records of the different varieties of the shuttle hurdle relay. In the Emerging Elite 4x200, the team of Desirae Osley, Rochell McDonald, Thomas, and McMillan ran close to their season best, finishing 8th overall with a time of 1:44.66.

3/1/2014 Meet of Champions 0 South Brunswick 0 4x400 Runs Big Season Best at MOC!

The Lady Vikings ended the New Jersey portion of their season in style on Saturday at the Meet of Champions with a huge season best in the 4x400! The team of Aspen McMillan, Rochell McDonald, Imani Man, and Desirae Osley won their heat with a time of 4:04.02 to take over 5 seconds off their previous best! Their time was good enough to finish 11th in a competitive field, 9 spots better than their pre-meet seed. Also competing in individual events were McMillan, who ran a time of 8.48 to finish 11th in the 55 Hurdles, and Osley who finished 18th in the 400 at 59.39.

The Vikings made the trip to the always competitive Eastern States meet at the Armory on Monday night, where the team performed well in several events. The highlight was the 4x200 team running a swift time of 1:44.40 to earn 6th place medals! With that time, the lineup of Desirae Osley, Rochell McDonald, Zyjira Thomas, and Aspen McMillan became the 3rd fastest 4x200 team in indoor school history!

2/7/2014 Central Jersey IV Sectionals 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Finish 3rd at Sectionals

The Lady Vikings had two individual winners at the Central Jersey Group IV Sectional Championships on Friday night in Toms River! The team scored 38 points to finish in 3rd place, and a total of 5 athletes advanced to next week's Group IV State Championship meet. Capturing sectional titles and earning 3 medals each on the evening were Desirae Osley and Aspen McMillan. Osley won the 400 with an indoor PR of 58.90, and placed 5th in the 55 with another PR of 7.54. McMillan won the 55 Hurdles in 8.51, and finished 2nd in the 55 Dash in 7.36. The hurdle victory marks her second straight indoor sectional title, as she won the 55 last year. Both McMillan and Osley ran on the 4th place 4x400 team with Imani Man Rochell McDonald that ran a time of 4:09.54. The other qualifier for states was Zyjira Thomas, who ran a PR of 8.77 to take 4th in the 55 Hurdles.

1/25/2014 GMC Championships 45 South Brunswick 43 Vikings Finish 3rd at GMCs

The Lady Vikings finished in 3rd place Saturday at the GMC Championships, 1 point behind 2nd place Piscataway, and only 2 points behind the winner, Old Bridge. The team medaled in 6 of the 9 scoring events, and totaled 43 points. Leading the way with 1st and 2nd place finishes was Aspen McMillan, who won the 55 Hurdles for the 2nd straight year (8.47), and finished 2nd in the 55. Her time of 7.28 lowered the school record of 7.36 that she tied last year!

Nikki Cavett was the team's other winner, as her height of 9-0 in the pole vault equaled her PR. Desirae Osley medaled in 2 individual events: 4th in the 400 (60.89) and 6th in the 55 (7.58 PR). Other medalists for the team were Danielle Hecht in the pole vault (2nd, 8-6); Denise Porter, 3rd in the shot put (33-6.75 PR); Jada-Rae Poku, 3rd in the high jump (4-10); the 3rd place 4x400 team of Osley, Imani Man, Annalyse Varlow, and McMillan that ran 4:10.01; and Julia Lekht, 5th in the 55 Hurdles (8.99).

1/17/2014 Group IV State Relays 0 South Brunswick 0 County Record & 3 Medal-Winning Relays!

The Vikings set a Middlesex County record, medaled in 3 events, and just missed medaling in 2 more at the Group IV State Relays on Friday night in Toms River! The team had many personal bests throughout the meet. The 12 points scored by the team put them in 9th place in the team standings. The highlight of the meet was the shuttle hurdle team breaking the Middlesex County record! The team of Julia Lekht, Zyjira Thomas, Khadija McDonald, and Aspen McMillan ran 32.66 to take 2nd, and lower the old record set by the 2010 Viking relay team by .16. The team also earned two 5th place finishes. In the 4x200, the team of Desirae Osley, Rochell McDonald, Thomas, and McMillan survived a collision on the final exchange to run a time of 1:48.75. The 4x400 team of Osley, Imani Man, Annalyse Varlow, and R. McDonald ran a season-best time of 4:10.12 to earn their medals. Finishing 7th and just missing out on medals based on number of misses were the vertical jump teams of Jada-Rae Poku and Julia Lekht, who both cleared 4-10 in the high jump, and Danielle Hecht (9-0) and Nikki Cavett in the pole vault (8-0).

1/11/2014 Lavino Relays 0 South Brunswick 0 Two Medal-Winning Relays at Lavino Relays

The Vikings took the short trip to Lawrenceville Prep on Saturday for the competitive Lavino Relays, and two relay teams came home with medal-winning performances for their top-3 performances! The highlight was the 4x200 team's comfortable victory with a new season-best time of 1:47.41. The team of Desirae Osley, Rochell McDonald, Zyjira Thomas, and Aspen McMillan took the lead on the first leg and never looked back. The shot put duo of Denise Porter (31-5.5) and Brianna Del Piano (29-11.5) took 3rd with a combined distance of 61.5. Other relays in the top-5 were the Shuttle Hurdle team of Julia Lekht, Thomas, Khadija McDonald, and McMillan that ran 35.22 for 4th place, and the triple jump tandem of Jada-Rae Poku (33-6.25) and Annalyse Varlow (32-0.5) that combined to take 5th.

The Lady Vikings Vikings finished in 2nd place Sunday at the GMC Relays, 4 points back of 1st place Old Bridge. The team was led by the winning shuttle hurdle team of Julia Lekht, Zyjira Thomas, Khadija McDonald, and Aspen McMillan that ran 33.17.

Other top-3 performances were recorded by the 2nd place 4x200 team of Desirae Osley, Rochell McDonald, Thomas, and McMillan that ran 1:48.58; the 3rd place 4x800 team of Imani Man, Osley, Annalyse Varlow, and Jess Himmel that ran 10:28.61; and the 3rd place 4x400 team of Osley, McMillan, Man, and R. The Vikings had many strong performances at the Track Universe Invitational on Monday at the New York Armory. Leading the way with event victories were Aspen McMillan in the 55 Hurdles (8.2) and Desirae Osley in the 200 (26.3). Each also placed high in other events, with Osley taking 2nd in the 400 (59.4) and 3rd in the 55 Dash (7.4), and McMillan placing 4th in the 400 (61.0). In addition, Rochell McDonald (200), Zyjira Thomas (55 Hurdles), and Julia Lekht (55 Hurdles) also placed in the top-6 in their events.

The Vikings had a great start to their season at the Leon Bailey Relays in Jersey City on Friday night. The team won 5 of the 6 varsity relays they entered, and finished 2nd in the other. The team also won two novice relays! 1st place finishes in the varsity races were recorded by the following relays:

Shot Put team of Denise Porter (31-1.5) and Brianna Del Piano (29-7.5) that threw 60-9 combined

4x800 team of Jess Himmel, Natalie Ginez, Desirae Osley, and Annalyse Varlow that ran 10:29.3

Shuttle Hurdles team of Julia Lekht, Zyjira Thomas, Khadija McDonald, and Aspen McMillan that ran 33.7
