The highlight of the weekend at the New Balance Indoor Nationals was the 4x200's 8th place finish in the Emerging Elite section in a time of 1:43.78! The team of Desirae Osley, Rochell McDonald, Zyjira Thomas, and Aspen McMillan ran the 2nd fastest indoor time in school history, and the 4th fastest indoors or outdoors!

2/21/2015 Meet of Champions 0 South Brunswick 0 4 Medalists at Meet of Champs!
The Vikings had a strong showing at the Meet of Champions on Saturday in Toms River, as 4 athletes came home with medals! The top finish was Aspen McMillan's 4th place in the 55 Hurdles, with a PR of 8.25! Her time is also the 2nd fastest in school history! She also ran on the 4x400 relay team with Desirae Osley, Rochell McDonald, and Brianna Araque, who combined to finish 6th in a season best 4:02.45! They became only the second 4x400 team in school history to medal at the indoor MOC. Other highlights included Daniella Izzo jumping a PR in the pole vault of 10-0!

2/15/2015 Group IV State Championships 0 South Brunswick 0 8 Medalists at States!
The Vikings set several team all-time bests on Sunday at the Group IV State Championships in Toms River! The team scored 23.83 points to finish in 4th place, the best performance in the team's indoor Group IV history! In addition, all 11 athletes who competed qualified for the Meet of Champions, including 8 who earned medals, both numbers setting program all-time bests! The highest individual finish was Aspen McMillan's 2nd place in the 55 Hurdles! Her time of 8.34 was also a PR! In addition, she ran anchor on the 4x400 team which finished 3rd in a season best 4:03.81. She was joined by Desirae Osley, Rochell McDonald, and Brianna Araque on the relay. Also finishing 3rd was Danielle Hecht, who jumped 10-0 in the pole vault! Two of her teammates also medaled in that event: Daniella Izzo, 5th at 9-6, and Nikki Cavett, tied for 6th at 9-0. Sydney Schneider was the other medalist, as her PR of 5-2 in the high jump earned her a tie for 5th place! The following athletes qualified for the MOC as wildcards: Jada-Rae Poku, 8th in the high jump (5-0); Zyjira Thomas, who was 9th in the 55 Hurdles (8.79); Desirae Osley, 10th in the 400 (60.37); Miranda Irizarry, 11th in the shot put (35-10.75 PR).

2/10/2015 Lou Molino Invitational 0 South Brunswick 0 7 Medalists at Molino Invitational!
In the season finale for many Vikings, the team had 7 athletes earn medals at the Lou Molino Invitational on Tuesday night! Leading the way with a victory in the Varsity 800 was Natalie Ginez, who ran a time of 2:31.5 for the victory! Also medaling in that race were Michaela Knoblock, 4th in 2:33.4, and Imani Man, 6th in 2:35.4. The team also had winners in the freshman and novice competition. In the Freshman 55 Hurdles, Ominay Robertson ran a PR of 9.9 for the victory, while Latisha Witherspoon ran 45.3 to capture the Novice 300! Other medalists were Nicole Notarianni, 3rd in the Novice 55 Hurdles (9.8), and Greta Rusbarsky, 3rd in the Novice 300 (46.5).

2/5/2015 South Brunswick 90 GMC Championships 33 GMC Champions!
The Vikings scored 90 points to rout the field and win the GMC Championship for the first time in 3 years! The team had 16 athletes earn medals, set a meet record, and won 5 of the 10 events!
Leading the way with 3 gold medals was Desirae Osley. She won her first individual county titles, as she captured the 400 by over a full second with her winning time of 59.61, and the 55 with a PR of 7.50! She also anchored the 4x400 relay to victory to complete the gold medal triple!
Also winning individually were Aspen McMillan and Danielle Hecht! McMillan ran 8.50 to win the 55 Hurdles for the 3rd straight year, while Hecht won the pole vault at 10'0, a mark that broke the meet record!
The other winner was the 4x400 team, composed of Rochell McDonald, Brianna Araque, Essence Baker, and Osley. The team ran 4:11.18 for the win!
Earning 2nd place medals were Zyjira Thomas in the 55 Hurdles (8.65); Daniella Izzo in the pole vault (9-6 =PR); Jada-Rae Poku in the high jump (5-2 =PR); and Natalie Ginez in the 3200 (12:05.97), who also finished 4th in the 1600 (5:30.88).
Third place finishes went to Nikki Cavett in the pole vault (9-0) and Sydney Schneider in the high jump (5-0 =PR).
Other medalists were McDonald, 4th in the 400 (61.22) and 6th in the 55 (7.67); Michaela Knoblock, 4th in the 800 (2:30.02); Nicole Fenske, 4th in the 3200 (12:08.57 PR); Denise Porter, 5th in the shot put (33-11.25); and Miranda Irizarry, 6th in the shot put (33-9).

2/1/2015 Central Jersey IV Sectionals 0 South Brunswick 0 11 Advance to States; Team finishes 3rd
The Vikings scored 57 points Sunday at the Central Jersey Group IV Sectional meet at Toms River, enough to earn a 3rd place finish in the team standings. The team had three 2nd place finishes, and had a total of 11 athletes qualify for the Group IV State Championships! Earning 2nd place finishes individually were Aspen McMillan & Desirae Osley. McMillan ran a PR of 8.37 in the 55 Hurdles, while Osley ran 59.53 in the 400. Both also medaled in the 55 Dash (McMillan 4th in 7.47, Osley 5th in a PR of 7.52), and ran on the 2nd place 4x400 with Rochell McDonald and Brianna Araque that ran 4:07.18. McDonald also placed 5th in the 400 with a PR of 60.72. Other medalists were: Jada-Rae Poku, 3rd in the high jump (5-2 =PR); Zyjira Thomas, 3rd in the 55 Hurdles (8.83, 8.77 in trials); Danielle Hecht, tied for 3rd in the pole vault (9-6); Miranda Irizarry, 5th in the shot put (35-0.75 PR); Nikki Cavett & Daniella Izzo, tied for 5th in the pole vault (9-0); and Sydney Schneider, 5th in the high jump (5-0) and 6th in the 55 Hurdles (9.49, 9.14 in trials).

The Vikings won 3 events and medaled in 3 others at the Toms River Frosh-Novice meet on Thursday night! Leading the way with victories were Essence Baker in the frosh 400 (65.67), Latisha Witherspoon in the novice 55 (7.88), and the Novice 4x400 team of Olivia Hutchison, Nicole Notarianni, Julianna Lempfert, and Witherspoon that ran 4:27.86! Also earning medals for their top-6 performances were Baker with a 3rd in the frosh 55 (7.75), Paige Buchanan with a 4th in the frosh shot put (26-10.25), and Ominay Robertson with a 5th in the frosh 55 Hurdles (10.23). Many other team members had season bests as well!

A county record and one medalist were among the highlights on Saturday when a small number of Vikings made the trek to the NY Armory for the always competitive Stanner Games. Desirae Osley stood out with her school and Middlesex County all-time record of 42.19 in the 300 meters! Her time broke the 9-year-old school & county record by .24 seconds, and her 7th place finish just missed making the final by .1! In addition, she also finished 7th the finals of the 55 Dash after running a near-PR of 7.56 in the prelims! In other highlights, Natalie Ginez ran a strong PR (indoors & out) of 5:26.39 in the 1600 to capture a 5th place medal! Among other notable performances, Jada-Rae Poku made the finals in the triple jump, where she finished 6th with an indoor PR of 35-1!

The Vikings made history on Thursday night in Toms River at the Group IV State Relays by becoming the first girls' team in school history to win a winter or spring track & field overall team state title! The team placed in 5 of the 9 events and totaled 36 points to tie Franklin for the team title! Leading the way with the team's first-ever event victory at the Group IV State Relays was the 4x200 relay's commanding victory! The team of Desirae Osley, Rochell McDonald, Zyjira Thomas, & Aspen McMillan ran 1:47.15 to win by over 1.5 seconds! The team had three 2nd place finishes: McMillan, McDonald, Sydney Schneider, & Thomas in the shuttle hurdles with a near-school record time of 32.72; the pole vault relay of Danielle Hecht & Daniella Izzo (18-0); and the 4x400 team of Osley, McDonald, Brianna Araque, and McMillan (4:04.56). The scoring was rounded out by the high jump tandem of Schneider (5-0 PR) and Jada-Rae Poku (4-8), whose combined mark of 9-8 earned 5th place.

1/10/2015 South Brunswick 64 Middlesex County Relays 34 GMC Relays Champs!
South Brunswick scored 64 points to comfortably win the team title on Saturday night at the GMC Relays! The team won 5 events in all, including non-scoring events, had 17 athletes contribute to the scoring, and placed top-3 in every varsity event! Leading the way with victories on the track were the 4x200, Sprint Medley, and 4x400! The 4x200 team of Desirae Osley, Rochell McDonald, Zyjira Thomas, and Aspen McMillan ran 1:48.01 to win by a large margin, as did the 4x400 team of Osley, McDonald, McMillan, and Brianna Araque that ran 4:08.11. The Sprint Medley team of Annalyse Varlow, Essence Baker, Sydney Schneider, and Nicole Fenske won a much tighter race, with their time of of 4:37.18 giving them the narrow victory! In the field, the pole vault team of Danielle Hecht (9-6) and Maggie Kaplan (9-0) combined for the victory, and their total mark of 18-6 also broke the meet record! 2nd place finishes were recorded by the shuttle hurdle team of McMillan, McDonald, Araque, and Thomas that ran 35.09, and the 4x800 team of Osley, Imani Man, Natalie Ginez, and Michaela Knoblock that ran 10:16.84. 3rd places went to the Distance Medley team of Fenske, Greta Rusbarsky, Nikki Sendner, and Ginez that ran 13:14.21; the high jump team of Jada-Rae Poku (4-10) & Schneider (4-10); and the shot put team of Miranda Irizarry (32-0.75) & Denise Porter (31-6.25). In addition, the novice 4x200 team of Latisha Witherspoon, Nicole Notarianni, Olivia Hutchison, and Chloe Hypolite finished 1st in 1:54.54!

South Brunswick had a strong showing in all event areas on Saturday at the Merli Invitational, and totaled 64 points to win the Large School team title!
Highlights were victories in 3 events! In the pole vault, Danielle Hecht led 3 other Viking medalists with her 1st place finish of 10'0. Aspen McMillan captured a close battle in the 55 Hurdles in 8.48 (to go with her 2nd place in the 55 at 7.51), and the 4x400 team of Desirae Osley, Brianna Araque, Zyjira Thomas, and Annalyse Varlow crossed 1st in 4:15.21. Other athletes who earned medals for their top-6 finishes were: Jada-Rae Poku, tied for 2nd in the high jump (5-0); Daniella Izzo & Nikki Cavett, tied for 3rd in the pole vault (8-6); Denise Porter, 4th in the shot put (33-6); Thomas, 5th in the 55 Hurdles (8.90); Natalie Ginez, 5th in the 3200 (11:59.64); and Maggie Kaplan, 6th in the pole vault (8-0).

The Vikings had a successful showing in their opening meet, the Leon Bailey Relays in Jersey City. The team won 3 varsity events, as well as 4 novice events, to go along with several other medal-winning relays! In varsity events, the 4x200, Shuttle Hurdles, and High Jump relays were all victorious! The 4x200 team of Desirae Osley, Rochell McDonald, Zyjira Thomas, and Aspen McMillan ran 1:49.5, while the Shuttle team of McMillan, McDonald, Brianna Araque, and Thomas ran 33.2. Both teams won by comfortable margins. In the high jump, Jada-Rae Poku and Sydney Schneider both cleared 4-10 to win the event with a combined mark of 9-8!
