The Vikings closed their season in style over the weekend at the New Balance Nationals in Greensboro, NC! The team competed in 5 relays and 1 individual event, and had several SBHS all-time great performances! The main highlights came on Sunday, the final day of competition. The day started early in the morning, with the 4xMile team breaking the school and Middlesex County all-time records! The team of Nikhila Obbineni, Chantel Osley, Becky Hartman, and Nicole Fenske ran a time of 21:22.35 to break the old records and finish 10th in the race! The Vikings ended the meet in dramatic fashion, with a come-from-behind victory in the Emerging Elite 4x400! The team of Joanna Taitt, Osley, Misha Duverger, and Essence Baker ran a big season-best of 3:53.97 to take the victory in a time that is #2 all-time in school history! In addition, the Championship 1600 Sprint Medley team of Sanaai Johnson, Duverger, Taitt, and Baker ran 4:08.47 on Saturday to move up to #6 all-time in school history, while the Emerging Elite 4x800 team of Obbineni, Marisa Keiser, Cassie Vega, and Danae Audibert ran 9:37.27 on Friday to earn a spot as #8 all-time in school history!

6/9/2018 Meet of Champions 0 South Brunswick 0 Great Night at Meet of Champs!
The Vikings ended the New Jersey portion of their season with an outstanding showing at the Meet of Champions on Saturday! Within the span of a little over 2 hours, the team broke 2 school records, an all-time Middlesex County record, and earned medals in three events!
Leading the way with medals in all three of those events was Essence Baker! First, she ran 2:12.21 in the 800, a PR of over 1.5 seconds, which broke her own school record set last year! Her time earned her 4th place overall, which is the fourth time she earned a medal in that event at the indoor and outdoor Meet of Champions, and her highest finish ever!
A little over an hour later she joined her teammates to run a new school and county record in the 4x800! Leading off was Nikhila Obbineni, followed by Chantel Osley and Danae Audibert, with Baker anchoring. Their time of 9:20.32 broke the record they set last week by over 3.5 seconds, and earned them 5th place medals!
About 45 minutes later the Vikings completed the meet with a medal-winning performance in the 4x400! The team of Joanna Taitt, Osley, Misha Duverger, and Baker ran 3:55.58, just off their season best set last week, to finish 8th!

6/2/2018 Group IV State Championships 36 South Brunswick 32 2nd in Group IV!
The Vikings finished in 2nd place in the team standings at the Group IV State Championships over the weekend, the highest the team has ever finished at this meet! The team had 8 athletes contribute to the team's total of 32.5 points, just 3.5 points behind the winning team. The team's previous high finish was 3rd place, accomplished on three separate occasions. Leading the way with a state championship victory in the 800 meters was Essence Baker! She ran 2:13.81 to win her first-ever outdoor state title, to go along with the state title she won in the winter! She becomes only the second girl in school history to win an outdoor state title in a running event, and the first in 35 years! Her time also just missed her own school record by .05! Baker also teamed up with three teammates to take down the 8-year old school and Middlesex County record in the 4x800 relay! Running with Nikhila Obbineni, Chantel Osley, and Cassie Vega, the girls ran 9:23.84 to place 2nd, the team's highest finish ever in that event at the Group meet! Sabrina Ray also finished 2nd in a close Pole Vault competition! She jumped an outdoor PR of 11'6, and earned a medal at this meet for the second straight year. Camryn Meranchik also medaled in the Pole Vault, as her height of 10'6 earned her a share of 5th place! The team also earned 4th place medals in the 4x400 relay! The team of Joanna Taitt, Osley, Misha Duverger, and Baker ran a season-best of 3:55.46, which is #6 all-time in school history! The final medalist was Obbineni, who took over a second off of her 800 PR by running a time of 2:16.11 to earn a 6th place finish! Her time improves upon her already #4 ranked performance in school history. In addition to the athletes and relays mentioned above, Duverger will advance to the Meet of Champions in the 400 Hurdles by virtue of her 8th place finish in the 400 Hurdles with a time of 63.90, a PR by over 1 second! Her time will earn her a wildcard berth to the MOC, and is the 5th fastest time in school history!

5/26/2018 South Brunswick 79 Central Jersey IV Sectionals 64 Sectional Champions!
The Vikings continued their outstanding season by winning their fourth consecutive Central Jersey Group IV Sectional Championship over the weekend at Howell High School! The team won 3 events, scored in 12 events, and had 18 athletes contribute points to the team's total of 79.2 points!
Leading the way with individual victories were Sabrina Ray and Essence Baker! Ray won her second consecutive outdoor Sectional title in the Pole Vault with her leap of 11'0! Baker won her first outdoor Sectional title in the 800 in a time of 2:15.58! In addition, the 4x800 relay team finished first. The team of Danae Audibert, Marisa Keiser, Cassie Vega, and Baker ran 9:28.86, which is the 2nd fastest time in school history! Second place finishes were recorded by Misha Duverger, who ran 65.24 in the 400 Hurdles, and Camryn Meranchik, who jumped 10'6 in the Pole Vault! Duverger was also 6th in the 100 (12.84).
3rd place finishes went to Keiser in the 3200 (11:42.44) and the 4x400 team of Joanna Taitt, Chantel Osley, Duverger, and Baker that ran a big season-best of 3:56.35, which is #6 all-time in school history! 4th place performances were turned in by Nikhila Obbineni in the 1600 (5:08.72), Becky Hartman in the 3200 (11:49.34), and the 4x100 team of Sanaai Johnson, Taitt, Riley Ratcliffe, and Lauren Powell that ran a season best of 49.23, #8 all-time in school history! Finishing in 5th were Jess Rodgers in the Javelin (112'7), Nicole Fenske in the 3200 (11:49.60), and Janai Orders in the Triple Jump (35'1.5).
In 6th were Osley in the 1600 (5:13.87), Obbineni in the 800 (2:17.36), and Lauren Brengel, who tied for 6th in the High Jump (4'10).

The Vikings had a tremendous night of personal bests and all-time great performances at Holmdel's Royal Rumble on Thursday night! The team had 14 athletes compete, and each one had a season or personal best! The fastest performer of the night was Chantel Osley, who ran a personal best of 5:13.02, which is good for #4 all-time in school history! Other top performances were recorded by Becky Hartman (5:17.51 PR, #9 in school history), Nicole Fenske (5:17.96, season best and already the #7 performer in school history), and Marisa Keiser (5:17.98, #10 in school history)! In addition, a small contingent competed at WWP-North's Sprint Knight, and Danae Audibert recorded a time of 2:23.64 in the 800, a 3 second PR and #10 all-time in school history!

South Brunswick Track & Field's Class of 2018 finished their four year careers undefeated in GMC competition (Relays, Championships, dual meets) by defeating Old Bridge on Tuesday to finish 5-0 this season! 5/12/2018 South Brunswick 112 GMC Championships 98 GMC Champions!
South Brunswick won its 13th straight GMC Championship on Saturday at Old Bridge to cap an impressive two days of competition! The team scored 112 points to come back and defeat a fantastic Sayreville team by a 14 point margin. The team had 18 athletes contribute to the scoring, won 3 events, placed top-6 in 15 of the 18 events, and had many all-time great performances throughout the meet!
Individual event winners were Essence Baker and Sabrina Ray, both of whom won their event for the second straight year! Baker repeated as 800 champ with a time of 2:15.12, while Ray won her repeat title in the Pole Vault with a height of 10'6!
The other first place finish was the 4x800 relay, which broke the meet record set by another Viking team last spring! The team of Marisa Keiser, Cassie Vega, Danae Audibert, and Baker ran 9:37.24 for the new record.
Second place finishes were recorded by Misha Duverger, who ran a new PR of 65.03 in the 400 Hurdles (#7 in school history) to go along with another PR and a 3rd place finish in the 100 Hurdles (15.29, #8 in school history). Also finishing in 2nd was Nikhila Obbineni, who ran a huge PR in the 800 of 2:17.53, #4 in school history, after earning a 4th place finish in the 1600 with another huge PR, 5:08.27, which is #3 in school history! Marisa Keiser ran a huge PR in the 3200 to finish 2nd, and her time of 11:25.96 is also good for #5 in school history! Camryn Meranchik also finished 2nd, earning that place with a 10'0 clearance in the Pole Vault.
Both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays also placed second. The 4x100 team of Sanaai Johnson, Joanna Taitt, Riley Ratcliffe, and Lauren Powell ran a season-best of 49.91, while the 4x400 team of Taitt, Chantel Osley, Powell, and Baker ran 4:00.95.
3rd place finishes were turned in by Janai Orders in the Triple Jump (34'2), and Jess Rodgers in the Javelin (112-8 PR).
Finishing 4th in the 200 was Joanna Taitt (26.43), to go along with a 5th in the 400 (59.29 PR, #10 in school history)!
Amanda Scattergood tied her PR in the discus with a throw of 101-0, which earned her 5th place. Lauren Brengel tied for 5th in the High Jump with her height of 4'8.
The scoring was rounded out by several crucial 6th place finishes: Riley Ratcliffe in the Pole Vault (8'6 PR); Chantel Osley in the 800 (2:20.07, outdoor PR and already #5 in school history); and Becky Hartman in the 3200 (11:31.54 PR, #6 in school history).

5/2/2018 South Brunswick 128 GMC Relays 59 GMC Relays Champions!
South Brunswick completed a fantastic two days of competition on Wednesday night to win their 13th consecutive GMC Relays Championship! The team won 7 of the 16 varsity events, placed in all 16, won both novice events, set a new meet record in the 4x800, and had 31 different athletes contribute to the total score of 128 points!
The team started the meet on Tuesday with event victories in the Triple Jump and 4x1600. The Triple Jump team of Janai Orders, Chelsea Eltringham, and Lauren Brengel jumped a combined 100-2.25, while the 4x1600 team of Chantel Osley, Becky Hartman, Nikhila Obbineni, and Nicole Fenske ran 21:49.08, the 2nd fastest time in school history!
Winning relays on Wednesday were the 4x800 team of Osley, Obbineni, Cassie Vega, and Essence Baker, which ran 9:37.70 to break the meet record! Their time is also #6 in school history!
Other winners were the Shuttle Hurdle team of Eltringham, Grace Boekhout-Whiting, Orders, and Misha Duverger that ran 65.21; the Distance Medley team of Marisa Keiser, Lauren Powell, Danae Audibert, and Fenske that ran 12:58.10; the Long Jump team of Eltringham, Jill Carbone, and Brooke Valan that combined to leap 45-1.25; and the Pole Vault trio of Sabrina Ray, Camryn Meranchik, and Riley Ratcliffe that combined to jump 28-6, with Meranchik jumping a new PR of 10-6, tied for #5 in school history!

South Brunswick competed in three relays at the Penn Relays on Thursday in Philadelphia, and each team ran a season best! For the second time in school history, the team qualified for the 4x800 relay, and the team ran very well, finishing with a season best of 9:35.95, which is the 3rd fastest in school history! The lineup consisted of Chantel Osley, Marisa Keiser, Nikhila Obbineni, and Danae Audibert. The 4x100 team of Misha Duverger, Joanna Taitt, Riley Ratcliffe, and Lauren Powell also ran a season best with their time of 49.94, while the final team to compete, the 4x400, ran a season best of 4:07.07 and finished 3rd in their heat to earn medals! The team ran in the order of Osley, Taitt, Duverger, and Powell.

The Vikings performed well in their second relay invitational on Saturday at Colts Neck! The team won 8 varsity relays and had many other athletes earn medals in the Varsity and JV divisions! On the track, winning relays were the 4x100 team of Sanaai Johnson, Joanna Taitt, Riley Ratcliffe, and Lauren Powell that ran 51.29; the Shuttle Hurdle team of Chelsea Eltringham, Grace Boekhout-Whiting, Janai Orders, and Misha Duverger that ran 67.89; and the 800 Sprint Medley team of Duverger, Taitt, Ratcliffe, and Essence Baker that ran 1:52.53 (7th fastest in school history). In the field, winning teams were the Pole Vault team of Sabrina Ray and Camryn Meranchik that jumped a combined 19'6; and all three throwing relays: the shot put team of Liz Matticoli and Mya Ross that threw 61'2.25, the Discus team of Amanda Scattergood and Maddie Ianniello that threw 199'11, and the Javelin team of Paige Buchanan and Jess Rodgers that combined to throw 193'1.

South Brunswick made the most of the warm weather on Saturday as they won the East Brunswick Invitational for the second straight year! The team had five event victories and many other medal-winning performances throughout the meet.Four of the team's victories came in the field events, including three wins in jumping events. In the Pole Vault, the team of Camryn Meranchik (10'0 =PR) and Riley Ratcliffe (7'6) teamed up for the victory. The High Jump team of Chelsea Eltringham (4'10), Lauren Brengel (4'10 =PR), and Melvina Nicol (4'8 =PR) were the winning relay. Raquel Ferrara (33'0), Eltringham (31-9.5), and Janai Orders (31-4) were the winning Triple Jump team. In the Javelin, Jess Rodgers (102-6), Liz Matticoli (83-10) and Edith Gonzalez (83-9) were the victors. On the track, the Shuttle Hurdle team of Eltringham, Orders, Grace Boekhout-Whiting, and Misha Duverger came out on top with their time of 65.72.
