South Brunswick had an outstanding showing at the competitive Eastern States Championships in New York on Tuesday night. The team set two new indoor school records, and also had many other personal bests to close the season in style. The 4x800 relay team of Chantel Osley, Desirae Osley, Natalie Ginez, and Essence Baker broke the indoor school record with their time of 9:39.26! The time is the second fastest all-time indoors in Middlesex County! Earlier in the meet, Desirae Osley also set an indoor school record in the 200 with her time of 25.77! Other athletes stepping up with big personal bests were Miranda Irizarry, who PR'ed by a foot in the shot put (37-11.25); Ominay Robertson, who ran 8.71 in the 55 Hurdles; Misha Duverger, who ran 8.76 in the 55 Hurdles; and Annalyse Varlow, who jumped 16-1.75 in the long jump!

2/27/2016 Meet of Champions 0 South Brunswick 0 5 Medalists and Campbell Wins MOC High Jump Title!
South Brunswick had a great day Saturday at the Meet of Champions in Toms River. Five girls earned medals at the most competitive and prestigious high school meet in New Jersey! Highlighting the performances was Courteney Campbell, who made school history by becoming the first Viking girl to win an event at the indoor Meet of Champions! She came up with a personal best height of 5'6 on her first attempt to win the competition based on fewer misses. Her performance also improved on her own school record of 5'5 set earlier in the season! Desirae Osley also came up big, as she earned two medals, including her first-ever individual medal at an indoor or outdoor MOC! Her time of 25.92 in the 200 was an indoor PR and good enough to capture 4th place! In addition, she ran anchor on the 4x400 team that earned 6th place medals with their season-best time of 4:02.52! Joining her on the relay team were Essence Baker, Brianna Araque, and Chloe Hypolite. Their performance marks the 2nd straight year a Viking relay has medaled at the Meet of Champions.

2/19/2016 Group IV State Championships 0 South Brunswick 0 7 Medal Winners at Group IV State Championships!
The Vikings had an impressive 7 athletes earn medals at the Group IV State Championships on Friday night, meaning all 7 will advance to next week's Meet of Champions, the final and most prestigious high school meet in New Jersey! The team managed to score 17.5 points, which put them in 5th place overall, only 2.5 points behind the 2nd place team. Leading the way with a second place finish was Desirae Osley, who ran 59.11 in the 400! Her 2nd place finish is her highest finish ever at an indoor or outdoor state meet! She also ran anchor on the 5th place 4x400 team! Other individual medal winners were Courteney Campbell, who placed 4th in the high jump (5'4), and Daniella Izzo and Maggie Kaplan, both of whom cleared 9'6 in the pole vault to capture a 4-way share of 4th place! Joining Osley on the 4x400 team, which ran a season-best of 4:03.43, were Essence Baker, Brianna Araque, and Chloe Hypolite!

2/12/2016 South Brunswick 74 Central Jersey IV Sectionals 47 Central Jersey IV Sectional Champions!
The Vikings had a fantastic meet on Friday night, as the team won the Central Jersey Group IV Sectionals for the first time in four years! The team scored 74 points, the most at this meet in school history, to defeat runner-up Franklin, who scored 47.5! The team won 3 events and had 12 athletes contribute to the scoring. Leading the way with 2 victories and a total of 3 medals was Desirae Osley, who ran 58.71 to win her 2nd indoor Sectional title, and added a victory as the anchor on the winning 4x400 relay (4:07.93). She also picked up a 4th place finish in the 55 with a time of 7.48! The other individual winner was Daniella Izzo, who won the pole vault in a jump off against her own teammate. Izzo jumped 9-9 for the win, while Maggie Kaplan finished right behind with a height of 9-6! Joining Osley on the winning 4x400 were Brianna Araque, Latisha Witherspoon, and Chloe Hypolite. They became the first Vikings to win the 4x400 at an indoor sectional meet! The other medal winners were led double medalist Essence Baker, who ran a PR of 2:23.03 to finish 3rd in the 800, and 60.55 in the 400 for 4th place. Finishing in 3rd place with a massive PR of nearly 17 seconds in the 3200 was Nicole Fenske, who ran 11:34.73 to become the 4th fastest girl in school history! Miranda Irizarry also had a big PR in the shot put, as she placed 3rd with a throw of 36-11.25! The other 3rd place finisher was Courteney Campbell, who jumped 5'4 in the high jump! Rounding out the medal winners were Chantel Osley and Ominay Robertson, both of whom came up with personal bests to place 5th. Osley ran a 4 second PR in the 800 with her time of 2:23.69, while Robertson ran 8.86 in the 55 Hurdles!

2/3/2016 Princeton Elite Meet 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Perform Well at Princeton!
The Vikings had many good performances at the small but competitive Princeton Elite Meet on Wednesday night at Jadwin Gym. The highlights included Desirae Osley's double victory performance! She won the 55 with a PR of 7.45, and came back to win the 200 in an indoor PR of 26.12, a time that is currently top-5 in the state! The other winner was Essence Baker, who captured the 400 with an indoor PR of 60.53! Other top-3 finishers were Sydney Schneider, 2nd in the 55 Hurdles (8.90); Latisha Witherspoon, 2nd in the 400 (61.99); Daniella Izzo, 2nd in the pole vault (10-0); Miranda Irizarry, 2nd in the shot put (34-0); the 2nd place 4x400 team of Annalyse Varlow, Chantel Osley, Olivia Hutchison, and Chloe Hypolite that ran 4:16.27; and Natalie Ginez, 3rd in the 800 (2:29.02 indoor PR).

The Vikings had a successful showing at Sunday's Ocean Breeze Invitational on Staten Island! The team had many personal bests, highlighted by 6 athletes who won medals! Leading the way with a victory in the freshman 55 Hurdles was Janai Orders, who ran a PR of 9.71! In addition, Sabrina Ray finished 3rd in the same race (9.96) to go along with her 3rd in the freshman 55 (7.83 PR). Madison Ianniello finished 2nd in the freshman shot put (25-5 PR), while Chelsea Eltringham (not pictured) took 3rd in the freshman long jump (14-4). Ominay Robertson finished 4th in the sophomore 55 (7.69 PR), and Paige Buchanan finished 6th in the sophomore shot put (29-4 PR).

1/20/2016 South Brunswick 75 GMC Championships 31 Vikings Win 2nd Straight GMC title!
The Vikings kept their perfect season intact on Wednesday night with a commanding victory at the GMC Championships in Staten Island! The team scored 75 points, won 4 events, placed in all 10 events, and had 13 medal winners! Leading the way with individual event victories were Desirae Osley, Daniella Izzo, and Courteney Campbell. Osley won a thrilling 400 meter race with an indoor PR of 58.56! It marks her second consecutive title in that event. She also ran anchor on the 4x400 relay, coming from behind to seal the victory, and finished 3rd in the 55 with a PR of 7.48! Izzo tied the meet record of 10'0 to capture the pole vault for the first time indoors, after winning the outdoor title last year! Campbell jumped 5'4 to win the high jump GMC title for the first time! Joining Osley on the winning 4x400 team that ran 4:05.11 were Brianna Araque, Latisha Witherspoon, and Chloe Hypolite. Other medal winners were Maggie Kaplan, 2nd in the pole vault (9'6); Miranda Irizarry, 2nd in the shot put (35'2.5); Sydney Schneider, 2nd in the 55 Hurdles (8.78 PR) and tied for 2nd in the high jump (5'2 =PR); Ominay Robertson, 3rd in the 55 Hurdles (8.92 PR); Essence Baker, 3rd in the 800 (2:25.63 indoor PR); Nicole Notarianni, 5th in the 55 Hurdles (9.01 PR); and Natalie Ginez, 6th in both the 1600 (5:30.81) and the 3200 (11:59.56).

1/15/2016 South Brunswick 40 Group IV State Relays 37 Back-to-Back Group IV Relays State Champs!
The Vikings won their second consecutive Group IV Relays State Championship on Friday night in Toms River! The team scored 40 points to pull out a close 3 point victory over a strong Southern Regional team! The team won two events (High Jump and Pole Vault), finished 2nd in two others (4x200 & 4x400), and also picked up a vital 4th place in the shuttle hurdles, to go along with many other strong performances. Leading the way with event victories were the high jump duo of Courteny Campbell (5'2) and Sydney Schneider (5'0) who combined to jump 10'2, along with the pole vault tandem of Maggie Kaplan and Daniella Izzo, both of who jumped 9'6 for a total of 19'0! The 4x200 and 4x400 teams both placed 2nd to score big points toward the team title! Essence Baker, Brianna Araque, Latisha Witherspoon, and Desirae Osley all ran both races. The 4x200 time was 1:47.93, while the 4x400 was a season best 4:04.59! The shuttle hurdle team of Schneider, Misha Duverger, Sabrina Ray, and Nicole Notarianni ran 33.54 to grab 4th place!

1/9/2016 South Brunswick 70 GMC Relays 41 GMC Relays Champions!
The Vikings had a terrific performance on Saturday night in Toms River to win the GMC Relays for the 2nd straight season! The team scored 70 of a possible 80 points, won 7 of 9 varsity events, and set 2 meet records in the process! Also of note, all 28 girls who competed earned medals (varsity and novice competition)! Leading the way with event victories and meet records were the pole vault and 4x400 teams! The pole vault duo of Maggie Kaplan and Daniella Izzo both cleared 9'6 for a combined height of 19'0 that broke last year's meet record, also held by a Viking tandem! The 4x400 team of Essence Baker, Brianna Araque, Latisha Witherspoon, and Desirae Osley ran 4:05.38 for the win, with a time that broke the old meet record (held by the 2011 Vikings) by over a second! The same four also ran on the winning 4x200 team that recorded a swift 1:47.86 clocking! Other winners in varsity events were the Distance Medley team of Nicole Fenske, Chloe Hypolite, Chantel Osley, and Natalie Ginez that ran 13:04.56; the Shuttle Hurdle team of Ominay Robertson, Sydney Schneider, Misha Duverger, and Nicole Notarianni that ran 33.24; the shot put team of Miranda Irizarry (35'10.5) and Trinity Foster-Thompson (32'10.5) that combined to throw 68-9; and the high jump duo of Courteney Campbell (5'2) and Schneider (5'0) that jumped 10'2 together.
Other medalists in the varsity events were the 4x800 team of D. Osley, C. Osley, Fenske, and Baker that ran 10:11.78 for 3rd; and the 4th place sprint medley team of Araque, Imani Man, Notarianni, and Ginez that ran 4:32.91. South Brunswick continued their strong early start to the season at the Track Universe Invitational at the New York Armory on Wednesday. The meet was highlighted by three event victories for the Vikings! On the track, Desirae Osley ran an indoor PR of 26.0 to win the 200, while also finishing 2nd in the 400 (59.7). In the field, Courteney Campbell won her third straight meet to start the season, with her height of 5'2 in the high jump! Finally, Maggie Kaplan rounded out the winning trio with her PR height of 10'0 in the pole vault! Many other athletes posted personal bests and strong early season marks to end the 2015 portion of the season on a high note.

The Vikings competed for the first time at the new Ocean Breeze facility on Staten Island on Monday in the Holiday Carnival, and the team performed well in many events, including 2 new school records and 2 event victories! Leading the way with a victory in the high jump while breaking the long-standing school record in the process was Courteney Campbell, who improved her PR by 3 inches with her height of 5'5! She tied the 30 year old school record when she jumped 5'4 to win the competition, and as the only jumper left, raised the bar one inch and broke the record with her 3rd and final attempt! Desirae Osley broke the second indoor school record of her career while finishing 6th in the 600. In her first time ever running the event, she ran 1:43.81 to break the 10 year old school record, which she now adds to the 300 record she set last winter! She also finished 4th in the 55 with a time of 7.66. The other event winner was Daniella Izzo, who jumped 10'0 in the pole vault! Other medalists in varsity events were: Annalyse Varlow, 2nd in the long jump (15'8); the 2nd place 4x400 team of Brianna Araque, Varlow, Latisha Witherspoon, and Essence Baker that ran 4:12.54; Miranda Irizarry, 3rd in the shot put (34'4.25); the 3rd place 4x200 team of Nicole Notarianni, Chloe Hypolite, Witherspoon, and Araque that ran 1:50.21; Notarianni, 5th in the 55 Hurdles (9.49); Maggie Kaplan, 5th in the pole vault (9'6); and Nicole Fenske, 6th in the 3200 (11:51.04).

On Saturday, a larger group of athletes attended the Hall of Fame Invitational at the New York Armory. The team had many medal-winning performances for top-10 finishes in both the varsity and frosh/soph divisions. Leading the way with an impressive victory in the high jump was Courteney Campbell, who tied her PR of 5'2 from last spring to win her first-ever indoor competition! Other athletes who placed in the top-10 in varsity events to win medals were Daniella Izzo, 2nd in the pole vault (10'6 =PR); Maggie Kaplan, 4th in the pole vault (9'6 =PR); Nicole Notarianni, 4th in the 55 Hurdles (9.12 PR); Latisha Witherspoon, 5th in the 400 (63.44); Natalie Ginez, 6th in the mile (5:29.93); Annalyse Varlow, 8th in the triple jump (33-1); the 8th place 4x200 team of Desirae Osley, Imani Man, Chloe Hypolite, and Witherspoon that ran 1:49.69; Hypolite, 10th in the 400 (64.72); and Essence Baker, 10th in the 55 Hurdles (9.39). The Lady Vikings opened their season at a pair of weekend meets, and had many great performances at both. On Friday night, a small number of hurdlers competed at the Leon Bailey Relays in Jersey City, and the team won all 4 races they contested! In the Shuttle Hurdles, the varsity team of Ominay Robertson, Sydney Schneider, Nicole Notarianni, and Annalyse Varlow ran a strong time of 33.6 for the win, while the novice team of Essence Baker, Chelsea Eltringham, Sabrina Ray, and Misha Duverger ran 36.3 to win! The same girls repeated their winning ways in the 4x200 relays. In the varsity division, the winning team of Notarianni, Schneider, Varlow, and Baker ran 1:53.0, while the victorious novice team of Duverger, Robertson, Eltringham, and Ray ran 1:56.1.
