6/17/2011 New Balance Outdoor Nationals 0 South Brunswick 0 2 All-American Relays!
The Lady Vikings closed the 2011 season in style over the weekend at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in North Carolina. 2 relay teams earned All-American status for their top-6 performances, and another relay earned medals in the Emerging Elite division!
The team started the meet on Friday with a 6th place performance in the sprint medley. The team of Rachel Johnson, Janae Baker, Alicia Osley, and Cayla Del Piano ran 4:05.04 to earn the school's first-ever outdoor All-American recognition for any relay team!
On Saturday morning the shuttle hurdle relay team also finished 6th to earn their own All-American certificates! The team of Jen O'Laughlin, Laura Calderone, Baker, and Johnson ran a time of 63.76!
In addition, Osley, Mariah Browne, Baker, and Johnson ran 48.57 to take 4th in the Emerging Elite 4x100!
The team was also were very close to earning All-American in 2 more events, as Browne finished 7th in the long jump at 18-5.25, and the 4x400 team of Osley, Baker, Joy Spriggs, and Del Piano finished 8th with a time of 3:54.17.

6/9/2011 Meet of Champions 0 South Brunswick 0 7 Medalists at Meet of Champs!
The Lady Vikings had a successful Meet of Champions as 7 of the 8 competitors earned medals for their top-8 performances! The team earned 2 sets of medals in the relays. In the 4x100, the team of Alicia Osley, Mariah Browne, Janae Baker and Rachel Johnson ran a season best 48.52 to finish 5th! In the 4x400, Baker, Joy Spriggs, Cayla Del Piano, and Osley ran 3:54.33 to take 6th! Medaling in individual events were Osley, 6th in the 400 (57.01); Del Piano, 7th in the 1600 (5:06.05); and Amber Brown, 8th in the discus (120-10).

6/4/2011 Group IV State Championships 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Advance 8 to Meet of Champs!
The Lady Vikings finished a disappointing 9th as a team at the Group IV State meet, but still managed to qualify 8 athletes to the Meet of Champions on Thursday! The highlight of the Group IV meet was Mariah Browne cementing her place in state history by winning her 3rd straight state title in the long jump! Seeded only 7th entering the meet, she jumped a season best 18-6.75 on her final jump for the victory! The team also had two other individuaal medalists. Alicia Osley finished 4th in the 400 at 57.59, and Cayla Del Piano finished 6th in the 1600 with an outdoor PR of 5:02.12. It was the first individual medal for both athletes at an outdoor state meet. On day two of the meet, the 4x400 team of Janae Baker, Joy Spriggs, Del Piano, and Osley finished 3rd with a time of 3:54.29. In addition, Amber Brown and Chloe Hall qualified for the Meet of Champs in the discus as wildcards, and Rachel Johnson will also compete in the 4x100 along with Osley, Browne, and Baker.

5/28/2011 South Brunswick 66 Central Jersey IV Sectionals 63 Vikings Earn Sectional Three-Peat!
The Lady Vikings, trailing for all of day two, came from behind in the final steps of the final event to win the race and the meet! The team trailed West Windsor South by 5 points entering the 4x400, but managed to shatter the school record en route to winning the race and the meet by slim margins! The final team score was 66-63 in the Vikings favor! The team also advanced 11 athletes to the Group IV State meet next week!
The relay team of Janae Baker, Joy Spriggs, Cayla Del Piano, and Alicia Osley took over 2 seconds off the school record with their time of 3:53.00, which was .07 better than the 2nd place team! They are also the first Viking 4x400 team to ever win a sectional title!
The team did not win any other events, but had many strong performances over the course of the two days. Earning multiple medals for their top-6 performances were Alicia Osley, 2nd in the 400 (56.91 PR), 6th in the 100 (12.88), and anchor of the winning 4x4; Cayla Del Piano, 2nd in the 800 (2:15.52), 3rd in the 1600 (5:09.59), and 3rd leg on the winning 4x4; Amber Brown, 2nd in the discus (122-4) and 5th in the shot put (35-10); Rachel Johnson, 4th in the 100 (12.73), 6th in the 100 Hurdles (15.55), and 6th in the 200 (26.29); and Chloe Hall, 4th in the discus (116-4) and 4th in the shot put (36-2).
Other medalists were Mariah Browne, 4th in the long jump (17-9); Julia Lekht, 5th in the triple jump (34-10); Alyssa McFarlane, 5th in the javelin (105-0); and Lindsay Carbone, 6th in the pole vault (9-6).

5/23/2011 Carl Lewis Relay Classic 0 South Brunswick 0 2 Winners at Willingboro!
The Lady Vikings changed plans and travelled to Willingboro at the last minute to compete in the Carl Lewis Relay Classic, and the team won 2 events on the track to go with several strong field performances!
The sprint medley team started the meet off well by winning with a fast time of 4:04.51! The team of Rachel Johnson, Janae Baker, Alicia Osley, and Cayla Del Piano won comfortably, and their time is the fastest in the state so far this season!
Also finishing first was the shuttle hurdle team of Jen O'Laughlin, Laura Calderone, Baker, and Johnson that ran a time of 64.75 which is currently 2nd fastest in the state!
Medaling in the field events were the following athletes: Alyssa McFarlane, 2nd in the javelin (111-1 PR); Chloe Hall, 2nd in the discus (114-5) and 5th in the shot put (35-3); Mariah Browne, 2nd in the long jump (17-8); Amber Brown, 4th in the discus (105-9); Jen O'Laughlin, 4th in the triple jump (34-1.75); and Kiya Strickland, 6th in the javelin (100-6).

The Lady Vikings defeated Old Bridge 101.5-38.5 to end the season 8-0! The team finished undefeated in duals meets for the 5th straight season, and sent the Class of 2011 out with a perfect career record against GMC competition! The team was led by double event winners Rachel Johnson and Chloe Hall. Johnson won the 100 Hurdles (15.5) and the 200 (26.9), while Hall took the shot put (35-8.5) and discus (114-8). Other winners were Niky Mateescu in the 1600 (5:56); Joy Spriggs in the 400 (60.3); Alicia Osley in the 800 (2:26.8 PR); Melanie Huen in the 3200 (13:05); Jen O'Laughlin in the triple jump (34-3); Lindsay Carbone in the pole vault (8-6); Kiya Strickland in the javelin (100-8); and the 4x400 team of Laura Calderone, Jackie Marciniak, Abha Chaudhary, and Victoria Monteiro that ran 4:35.7.

5/14/2011 South Brunswick 137 GMC Championships 61 Vikings Roll to 6th Straight GMC Title!
The Lady Vikings won their 6th straight GMC Championship on Saturday, scoring 137.5 points to to claim victory by 76 points! The team won 6 events, placed in 14 of the 16 events, and had 14 athletes contribute to the scoring!
Leading the way was Cayla Del Piano, who won 3 gold medals! She won the 800 with a swift 2:13.85, which crushed the meet and school records! She came back to win the 1600 in 5:12.97 and also ran on the winning 4x400 team!
Other champions were Mariah Browne, who with her leap of 17-10.5 made GMC history by becoming the first athlete to win that event 4 straight years! Lindsay Carbone won the pole vault at 9-0, and Amber Brown won the discus with a throw of 120-3. Rounding out the winners was the 4x400 team of Janae Baker, Joy Spriggs, Del Piano, and Alicia Osley that ran 3:56.38 to win by over 6 seconds!
2nd place finishes were recorded by Rachel Johnson in the 100 Hurdles (15.90); Osley in the 400 (58.16); Chloe Hall in the discus (112-9); Kiya Strickland in the javelin (105-4 PR); and Brooke Sassman, who tied for 2nd in the high jump (5-0).
In 3rd place was Danielle Padovano, who threw a big PR of 35-7.75 in the shot put. She also placed 4th in the discus at 108-8. Alyssa McFarlane placed 3rd in the javelin at 103-3, with Hall right behind in 4th at 103-1. Julia Lekht also placed 3rd in the triple jump with a PR of 34-10.5, and took 5th in the long jump with a PR of 15-10.5!
Other medals were won by Amber Brown, 4th in the shot put (34-11); Baker, 5th in the 400 (59.48) and 6th in the 200 (26.13); Spriggs, 5th in the 800 (2:22.13); and Johnson, 5th in the 100 (13.10).

The Lady Vikings defeated East Brunswick 85-55 on Tuesday to improve their dual meet record to 7-0!
The team won 10 events, including all 7 field events! Leading the way were double winners Rachel Johnson and Jen O'Laughlin. Johnson captured the 100 Hurdles (15.3 PR) and the 200 (25.8 PR), while O'Laughlin finished first in the long jump (15-11.25) and the triple jump (33-11).
Other winners were Alicia Osley in the 100 (12.5 PR); Lindsay Carbone in the pole vault (8-0); Kelly Rose Harkness in the high jump (4-10 =PR); Amber Brown in the shot put (34-9.5); Chloe Hall in the discus (116-4); and Alyssa McFarlane in the javelin (98-11).

The Lady Vikings had many good performances at the Rowan Open on Saturday night!
Leading the way were two 3rd place performances by the sprinters. The Super Sprint Medley team of Jenna Thompson, Rachel Johnson, Janae Baker, and Alicia Osley ran 1:50.87 to place 3rd, and the 4x400 team of Baker, Joy Spriggs, Laura Calderone, and Osley were also 3rd with their time of 4:02.38.
Other medal winning performances were turned in by the 5th place shuttle hurdle team of Jen O'Laughlin, Calderone, Baker, and Johnson that ran 1:10.49, and Lindsay Carbone, who tied for 6th in the pole vault.

5/7/2011 Mercer Twilight 0 South Brunswick 0 Throwers Shine at Mercer Twilight!
The Lady Vikings sent a small contingent of throwers to Robbinsville for the Mercer Twilight meet, and they came home with many great performances!
In the javelin, all three throwers had season bests. Alyssa McFarlane led the way with her 1st place throw of 106-7, which was a big PR! Kiya Strickland was 3rd with a throw of 101-3, and Chloe Hall finished 4th with a PR of 100-9! In the discus, Hall finished 1st with a throw of 115, Amber Brown 2nd at 107, and Danielle Padovano 4th with a mark of 105. In the shot put, Brown was 5th at 34-1, and Hall was right behind in 6th with a best of 34-0.75.

5/4/2011 South Brunswick 122 Middlesex County Relays 61 Vikings Win 6th Straight GMC Relays Title!
The Lady Vikings used a great second day to storm to their 6th straight GMC Relays title on Wednesday! The team won 6 of the 16 events (5 on Day 2), and had 29 athletes who contributed to scoring 122 points, a total which out-distanced the 2nd place team by 61!
The team was led by the following relays which finished first. On Day 1, the discus team of Amber Brown (114-6), Chloe Hall (111-9), and Danielle Padovano (108-8) combined to throw 334-11, which shattered the meet record by over 8 feet!
On the second day, the same trio was again victorious, this time in the shot put, with Brown (35-6) leading the way, followed by Padovano (32-0) and Hall (30-3.5).
Other winners in the field on day two were the pole vault team of Lindsay Carbone (9-0), Lindsay Del Piano (7-0), and Savannah Barton (7-0), and the javelin team of Kiya Strickland (100-4), Hall (91-5), and Alyssa McFarlane (89-11).
Track winners on day 2 were the shuttle hurdle team of Jen O'Laughlin, Laura Calderone, Janae Baker, and Rachel Johnson that ran 66.76, and the sprint medley team of Alicia Osley, Johnson, Jenna Thompson, and Cayla Del Piano that ran 4:15.16.

4/28/2011 Penn Relays 0 South Brunswick 0 Strong Showing at Penn!
The Lady Vikings had a successful weekend competing at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. The highlight was the 4x100 team running a season best time of 48.62, which qualified them for the Tri-State final on Saturday! This was the first time a Viking relay team qualified for a Friday or Saturday relay final at Penn! The team of Alicia Osley, Mariah Browne, Janae Baker, and Rachel Johnson battled through rain and two lightening delays on Thursday to post the 3rd fastest time in New Jersey, and 27th best out of 586 teams! The team placed 6th in the final on Saturday with Lindsay Carbone replacing the injured Browne. The 4x400 team also ran well on Thursday, as they earned medals for their 3rd place finish in their heat. The team of Baker (59.2), Joy Spriggs (59.5), Laura Calderone (63.2), and Alicia Osley (57.7) ran a quick 3:59.92. Cayla Del Piano became the first athlete in school history to qualify for the Penn Relays mile, where she ran a time of 5:11.10.

The Lady Vikings improved to 6-0 on Tuesday by defeating Edison 106-34! The team won 11 events and had many great performances throughout the meet despite the windy conditions! The team was led by double event winners Rachel Johnson and Mariah Browne. Johnson won the 100 Hurdles (15.9) and the 200 (27.7), while Browne captured the long jump (16-9) and triple jump (35-6). Other winners were Emily Lane in the 800 (2:37.4 PR); Niky Mateescu in the 3200 (13:18); Lindsay Carbone in the pole vault (8-6); Jen O'Laughlin in the high jump (4-10); Chloe Hall in the shot put (35-2); Amber Brown in the discus (114-6); and Alyssa McFarlane in the javelin (99-10 PR).

4/16/2011 Colts Neck Relays 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Battle Cold, Wind, and Rain at Colts Neck!
The Lady Vikings battled through cold temperatures, strong winds, and rain on Saturday at the Colts Neck Relays, but still managed to post some top finishes! The team posted two first place finishes, one on the track and one in the field. The 4x100 team of Alicia Osley, Mariah Browne, Janae Baker, and Rachel Johnson ran 50.71 to finish first for the 3rd straight week! The triple jump team of Browne (34-6.5) and Jen O'Laughlin (33-1) also finished first with their combined distance of 67-7.5! Other top-3 varsity performances were turned in by the shuttle hurdle team of O'Laughlin, Laura Calderone, Baker, and Johnson that ran 68.49 for 2nd place; the long jump team of Browne (16-6.75) and Julia Lekht (14-3.75) that combined for a 2nd place mark of 30-10.5; the 2nd place high jump team of Brooke Sassman (4-8) and Jen O'Laughlin (4-8) that combined to jump 9-4; and the 2nd place shot put and discus duo of Amber Brown (32-8, 99-4) and Chloe Hall (30-10, 117-2 PR) that combined to throw 63-6 and 216-6, respectively. Hall's discus mark moved her into 5th place on the SBHS all-time list!

The Lady Vikings traveled to the Metuchen Relays on Saturday with a small group of athletes, many of whom came home with medals for their great performances! The team won 3 of the 4 running relays they contested, as well as all 3 throwing relays! The highlight on the track was the school-record performance by the 4x200 relay! The team of Alicia Osley, Mariah Browne, Janae Baker, and Rachel Johnson ran a winning time of 1:42.9 to dip under the record set last year! The same four also combined to dominate the 4x100 with a winning time of 48.9! Both times are the best in the state so far this season.
Also on the track, the shuttle hurdle team of Jen O'Laughlin, Laura Calderone, Baker, and Johnson was victorious with their season best time of 1:06.9!
In the field, Amber Brown and Chloe Hall combined to win both the shot put and discus! In the javelin, Kiya Strickland and Alyssa McFarlane won the javelin relay! Also in the field, Mariah Browne won the individual long jump with a season-best of 18-3! Julia Lekht was 3rd with a personal best of 15-8.5.

The Lady Vikings opened their dual meet season on Thursday with a 123-16 victory over JP Stevens and a 82-57 win over Piscataway! The team had 26 athletes contribute to the scoring, and won all 7 field events against both teams! Mariah Browne led the way with double victories against both schools. She won the long jump (17-7.5) and the triple jump (35-2.25). Other athletes with first place finishes against both teams were Lindsay Carbone in the pole vault (7-6); Brooke Sassman in the high jump (4-10); Amber Brown in the shot put (34-7.75); Chloe Hall in the discus (114-4 PR); Kiya Strickland in the javelin (94-8); and the 4x400 team of Joy Spriggs, Julia Bossert, Alicia Osley, and Jenna Thompson that ran 4:13.6.

The Vikings opened their season at the GMCTCA Relays in South Plainfield on Saturday and came home with 6 victories in varsity events!
The field event athletes led the way, especially the throwers, who won all 3 events in the varsity and novice divisions! The highlight was the discus team of Amber Brown (108-8) and Chloe Hall (101-2) who broke the meet record with their combined mark of 209-10! The same pair combined to win the shot put, with Brown throwing 33-4.75 and Hall throwing 33-0.5! Other field event victories were recorded by the javelin team of Alyssa McFarlane (89-4) and Kiya Strickland (88-8), and in the long jump and triple jump, where Mariah Browne and Jen O'Laughlin teamed up to win both events! Browne's marks were 16-6.5 and 36-5.25, while O'Laughlin jumped 14-11.5 and 32-6.5. On the track, the highlight was the 4x100 team's commanding victory with a fast time of 49.42.
