6/16/2007 Nike Nationals 0 South Brunswick 0 2 Medalists at Nike Nationals!
The Vikings were well represented at the Nike Nationals in Greensboro, NC over the weekend, with two athletes finishing in the top-3 in their events!
Stephanie McIntyre finished 3rd in the triple jump with a leap of 39-6.5 to earn Nike All-American recognition! As usual, her best jump came on her 6th and final attempt, and was only .5 inches away from 2nd!
Sophia Ginez had a strong meet, as she finished 2nd in the freshman mile at 5:07.11 to earn Nike All-American status! She was also 8th in the Emerging Elite mile with a time of 5:04.84!
The final Viking competitor was Indira Morton, who finished 14th in the javelin with a throw of 128-11, and 19th in the long jump at 17-6.
6/6/2007 Meet of Champions 0 South Brunswick 0 1 MOC Champ plus 2 other medalists!
The Vikings had a strong showing on Wednesday at the Meet of Champions, as 3 athletes earned a total of 4 medals!
Leading the way was Stephanie McIntyre, who won her 2nd straight triple jump title with a leap of 39-9! The mark was also a meet record by 3 inches, the 3rd straight meet in which she set the meet record! McIntyre also captured 3rd in the long jump with a leap of 17-6!
Indira Morton also had a solid showing, finishing 4th in the javelin with a throw of 132-8. She also long jumped 16-1.75.
The final Viking competitor was Sophia Ginez, who earned a medal with her 7th place time of 5:05.49 in the 1600!
6/2/2007 Group IV States 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings finish 4th in Group IV!
South Brunswick had a great two days at the Group IV State Meet, finishing in 4th place with a total of 30 points! The team qualified 3 athletes for the Meet of Champions in a total of 5 events.
The Vikings’ effort was led by repeat state champions Stephanie McIntyre and Indira Morton. McIntyre won the triple jump with a final round leap of 40-0.25, a mark that beat her meet record set last year by 4.5 inches! It was also the first time she has been over 40 feet outdoors. Morton captured the javelin for the 2nd straight year with a throw of 133-5 to take the title! The mark was just 4 inches shy of her season best.
Morton came back Saturday in the long jump to take 2nd place with a leap of 17-2.5. In the same event, McIntyre took 8th place with a jump of 16-3.5.
Also impressing with two fantastic races was Sophia Ginez, who ran 11:13.29 in the 3200 to finish 5th, and 5:01.24 to finish 8th in the 1600. Both times broke the school records she set last weekend, and both will earn her berths in the Meet of Champions!
The final Viking competitor over the weekend was Krista Belick, who jumped a PR of 10-0 in the pole vault to finish in a tie for 8th place!
5/26/2007 Central Jersey Sectionals 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Win Central Jersey Sectionals!
The Vikings captured their first Central Jersey Sectional title in 24 years, and their first ever in Group IV on Saturday! The team scored 58 points to narrowly beat state power Jackson by 3.75 points! The Viking highlights included 2 meet records and 3 school records!
Leading the way with two victories was Indira Morton, who claimed the javelin and long jump titles. Morton's throw of 126-7 on Friday clinched her 2nd straight CJ IV victory in the javelin. On Saturday, she won the long jump with a school and meet record leap of 18-6.25! The mark was a PR of over 5 inches, and broke the 22-year old school record by .5 inches and the meet record by .25!
Sophia Ginez had an outstanding triple, which started Friday with a school record time of 5:05.70 to place 3rd in the 1600. She followed that up on Saturday with a near-PR of 2:17.21 in the 800 for another 3rd place, and then 1 hour later she broke a 24-year old school record in the 3200 with her time of 11:15.29 that placed her 4th!
Also scoring major points was Stephanie McIntyre, who won the triple jump on Friday for the 2nd straight year, and broke her own meet record with her leap of 38-11! On Saturday McIntyre had a new personal best of 17-9.25 in the long jump to place 3rd!
The Vikings also received valuable 3rd place points from Krista Belick, who tied her PR of 9-6 in the pole vault!
Other athletes who had significant performances but failed to place: Jamie Samper, who broke her own freshman record with her time of 67.29 in the 400 Hurdles; Falen Watson, who ran 67.87 for a PR in the 400 Hurdles; Sharon Liu, who ran a PR 70.77 in the 400 Hurdles and had a PR jump of 30-9 in the triple jump; Sara MacMurray, who set a new PR of 2:31.4 in the 800; and Danielle Hudak, who finished 7th in the triple jump with her leap of 33-9.5.

The Vikings tuned up for the Central Jersey Sectionals with a strong showing at the prestigious East Coast Relays on Monday night. 5 of the 7 relays that competed earned medals for their top-10 performances.
One of the highlights on the day was the school record performance of the distance medley team! The foursome of Megan Behrend (4:03.5 1200 PR), Yesenia Boynton (58.9 400), Jess Engel 2:31.6 800), and Sophia Ginez (5:08.7 1600 PR) ran 12:42.92 to finish 9th, a time that broke the 9-year old record by nearly 8 seconds!
Finishing in 3rd place with an excellent time of 63.96 was the shuttle hurdle team of Indira Morton (15.3), Falen Watson (16.7), Shani Lewis (15.9), and Danielle Hudak (15.9). The time was less than .3 off the school record. Also in 3rd place was the long jump team of Morton (16-5) and Stephanie McIntyre (14-8) that combined for 31-1.
In 4th place was the javelin team of Morton (122-8) and Trish Langone (89-1) that combined to throw 211-9.
The final medal-winning performance came from the 3X400 Hurdle team of Lauryn Strebeck (69.68 PR), Falen Watson (70.58), and Jamie Samper (71.35) that ran 3:31.61.

South Brunswick swept a double-dual meet on Tuesday, beating Perth Amboy 108-30 and North Brunswick 102-38! The two victories mean that the Vikings finish the dual meet season 7-0 and are the GMC Red Division Champions! Leading the way with two victories against each school was Indira Morton, who took the long jump (16-10.25) and the javelin (115-8), and she also added a 2nd in the 100 Hurdles (16.3). Other athletes who won events against at least one of the opponents were Jamie Samper (68.3 400 Hurdles), Melissa Dardani (12.8 100), Rebecca Russo (62.2 400), Shani Lewis (15.9 100 Hurdles), Sophia Ginez (2:21.2 800), Yesenia Boynton (26.9 200), Lyndsey Sample (13:26 3200), Stephanie McIntyre (37-9 triple jump), Krista Belick (5-0 high jump, 8-6 pole vault), Stephanie Greco (30-6 shot put, 80-7 discus), and Megan Behrend (5:52 1600). 5/12/2007 South Brunswick 95 GMC Championships 59 Vikings Win 2nd Straight GMC Title!
South Brunswick captured its second straight GMC Championship with a dominant victory on Saturday! The Vikings won 6 events, scored in 11 of 16 events, and totaled 95.9 points to defeat 2nd place JP Stevens by over 36 points!
The Vikings were led by double event winners Indira Morton and Sophia Ginez. Morton won the javelin for the 3rd straight year, throwing a season best 133-9, and also won the long jump with a leap of 17-9. Ginez won the 1600 with a time of 5:20.6, and also captured the 3200 in only her 2nd time running the event! Her time of 11:32.2 also broke the freshman class record!
Other athletes who claimed GMC titles were Stephanie McIntyre, who leaped 39-6.25 to win the triple jump, and the 4X400 team of Yesenia Boynton (58.9), Stephanie Rodriguez (62.5), Jamie Samper (61.3 PR), and Rebecca Russo (61.5) that ran a season-best time of 4:04.2, with Russo coming from behind on the last leg to take the victory.

South Brunswick improved to 5-0 on the dual meet season with a 98.5-41.5 defeat of Piscataway! The Vikings had many strong performances throughout the meet, as they won 12 of the 16 events! Leading the way with two victories each were Stephanie McIntyre, who won the long jump (17-7.5 PR) and the triple jump (38-11.5); Stephanie Greco, who won the shot put (28-11.75) and the discus (82-8 PR); and Krista Belick, who won the pole vault (8-6) and tied for first in the high jump (4-10). South Brunswick followed up its GMC Relay title with many outstanding performances at the prestigious Bernards Invitational on Saturday. The Vikings won 3 events, broke a meet record and a school record, and earned a total of 8 medals!
Finishing in first place and earning watches for their performances were Indira Morton and Stephanie McIntyre, who both confirmed their status as the current top-ranked athletes in the state for their main events. Morton won the javelin at 128-0, and also captured the long jump at 17-8.5. McIntyre won the triple jump with a meet record leap of 39-8, a mark that also tied her outdoor best. She also added a 2nd in the long jump with a near-PR of 17-5.5.
Also impressing with a 3rd place finish was Sophia Ginez, who ran 2:17.01 in the 800 to lower her own school record! Also placing 3rd was Lauryn Strebeck, who leaped 34-11.75 on her final jump in the triple jump.
Other athletes earning medals were Danielle Hudak, who took 5th in the triple jump at 33-5, and Krista Belick, who tied for 5th in the pole vault with a PR-tying height of 9-6.

South Brunswick used an awesome 2nd day of the GMC Relays to rack up a 2-day total of 106 points, a performance that left their closest rivals 54 points back! The Vikings won 5 events over the 2 days, and set 4 meet records in the process! 25 different athletes contributed to the scoring as the Vikings placed in the top-4 in 14 of the 16 events.
Leading the way on day two of the meet were the following event winners, who also set meet records: the long jump team of Indira Morton (18-1 PR), Stephanie McIntyre (16-0.5), and Jamie Thompson (15-7) that combined for 49-8.5, a mark that broke the old record by one foot; the pole vault team of Krista Belick (9-6), Jess Bellizio (8-0), and Maria Biondo (7-0) that leaped a combined 24-6, with all 3 jumpers setting new personal bests; and the sprint medley team of Yesenia Boynton (59.8 400), Melissa Dardani (26.4 200), Simone Hill (26.6 200), and Sophia Ginez (2:20.5 800) that ran 4:13.3. Also winning on day two was the javelin team of Morton (132-6), Trish Langone (93-5), and Jen Luck (82-6 PR).
2nd place finishes went to the 4X800 team of Stephanie Rodriguez (2:27.9), Jess Engel (2:32.8), Sara MacMurray (2:31.7 PR), and Rebecca Russo (2:25.8) that ran 9:58.1, and the distance medley team of Megan Behrend (4:03 1200 PR), Lauryn Strebeck (63.5 400 PR), Lyndsey Sample (2:40 800), and Ginez (5:09 1600 PR) that ran a time of 12:58.9.
In 3rd place was the 4X400 team of Russo (62.4), Rodriguez (62.3), Jamie Samper (61.7 PR), and Boynton (59.6) that ran 4:06.0, and the shot put team of Morton (34-6.25), Stephanie Greco (29-8), and Corinna Mecca (25-4) that threw 89-6.25 combined.
Rounding out the day two scoring was the 4th place 4X100 team of McIntyre, Danielle Hudak, Dardani, and Hill that ran 50.7.
5/2/2007 South Brunswick 0 GMC Relays 0 Vikings Take Small Day 1 Lead
The Vikings took a small lead after Day One of the GMC Relays. With six events completed, South Brunswick had 34 points, ahead of JP Stevens' 28 and Sayreville's 27.
Leading the way on the first day was the 1st place triple jump relay team that set a meet record of 107-11! The trio of Stephanie McIntyre (37-11), Danielle Hudak (35-4.5 PR) and Lauryn Strebeck (34-7.5) combined to break the previous record by over 7 feet.
Finishing in 2nd was the 4X1600 team of Megan Behrend (5:46), Jess Engel (5:54), Lyndsey Sample (5:59), and Sophia Ginez (5:18) that ran a season-best of 22:59.6.

4/26/2007 Penn Relays 0 South Brunswick 0 Solid Showing at Penn!
South Brunswick had a strong day at the Penn Relays on Thursday, with one medal-winning performance and several other impressive performances!
Leading the way was Stephanie McIntyre, who finished 4th in the triple jump with a leap of 39-0! Also placing well was Indira Morton, who finished 7th in the javelin with a season-best throw of 130-10! The Vikings also ran two relays, with the 4X400 team running a season best of 4:06.18. The team ran in the order of Rebecca Russo (63.8), Sophia Ginez (61.6), Stephanie Rodriguez (61.2), and Yesenia Boynton (59.4). The 4X100 team of Danielle Hudak, Lauryn Strebeck, Melissa Dardani, and Simone Hill were a bit off their best, but still finished with a strong time of 51.59.

South Brunswick improved to 4-0 on the season with a 88-52 defeat of JP Stevens on Tuesday! The Vikings had a balanced meet filled with many new personal bests. Leading the way with 2 first place finishes and a second was Indira Morton, who won the long jump (17-9), the javelin (113-5), and took 2nd in the 100 Hurdles (15.9 PR). Also winning events for the Vikings were Simone Hill in the 100 (13.0), Melissa Dardani in the 200 (26.9), Rebecca Russo in the 400 (61.4), Stephanie Rodriguez in the 800 (2:33), Sophia Ginez in the 1600 (5:23), and the 4X400 team of Zaniah Maynor (66.2), Rodriguez (64.2), Leanna Previte (68.7), and Jamie Thompson (66.3) that ran 4:25.2. Other notable performances were turned in by Lauryn Strebeck, who finished 2nd in the triple jump and in the process broke the freshman class record with a leap of 35-2! Krista Belick also had a notable personal best of 5-0 in the high jump, which placed her 2nd.

The Vikings took advantage of the great weather on Saturday and posted some outstanding performances at the Raider Relays in Hillsborough. Highlighting the day were 3 first-place finishes (including 2 meet records), 3 second-place finishes (including one school record), and 9 other top-6 finishes!
Leading the way with first-place finishes and meet records were the triple jump tandem of Stephanie McIntyre (39-8) and Lauryn Strebeck (33-10.5) that combined to leap 73-6.5, and the javelin team of Indira Morton (120-10)and Trish Langone (90-1) that combined to throw 210-11. Also winning and nearly setting a meet record was the long jump team of Morton (16-10) and Falen Watson (14-3.25) that combined for 31-1.25.
Another highlight was the 2nd place and school record performance of the sprint medley team. The foursome of Jamie Thompson (27.3 200), Melissa Dardani (26.7 200), Yesenia Boynton (59.0 400), and Sophia Ginez (2:19.1 800) combined to run 4:12.1, a time which broke the 1-year old school record by 2 seconds! Also finishing second with excellent times were the shuttle hurdle team of Morton (16.2), Watson (16.6), Krista Belick (17.3), and Danielle Hudak (15.9) that ran 66.0, and the 4X200 team of Strebeck (27.6), Boynton (26.4), Simone Hill (26.9), and Dardani (26.1) that ran 1:47.1.
Other notable individual marks were turned in by the following athletes: Rebecca Russo, who split a huge personal best of 2:24.9 on her 800 leg in the distance medley, Stephanie Rodriguez, who ran 69.2 in the 400 Hurdles; Krista Belick, who ran a PR of 62.9 in the 400; and Zaniah Maynor, who had two significant PRs of 27.9 in the 200 and 66.8 in the 400.

The Vikings had an impressive meet against Edison on Wednesday, rolling to a 103-37 victory! South Brunswick won 12 of the 16 events, and set many new personal bests throughout the meet. One of the many standout performances was turned in by Sophia Ginez, who shattered the school record in the 800 with her winning time of 2:17.7! The time bettered the old record by over 3 seconds. Also performing well were double event winners Indira Morton (17-9 long jump, 116-11 javelin), and Krista Belick (8-0 pole vault, 4-10 high jump). The Vikings had a strong showing Saturday at the Colts Neck Relays. Leading the way with first place finishes were the long jump team of Indira Morton (16-6.25) and Jamie Thompson (14-4.75) that combined to jump 30-11, and the 4X1600 team of Megan Behrend (5:52), Sophia Ginez (5:22), Lyndsey Sample (5:56), and Jess Engel (5:59) that combined to run 23:10.5.
In 2nd place was the javelin team of Morton (112-5) and Trish Langone (98-10) that combined to throw 211-3, and the triple jump team of Falen Watson (28-2.25) and Lauryn Strebeck (34-0), with Strebeck having the top jump of the meet.
Finishing in 3rd was the shuttle hurdle team of Shani Lewis (17.1), Sharon Liu (17.6), Maria Biondo (19.9), and Falen Watson (17.0) that ran 71.7.
Fourth place finishes went to the pole vault team of Krista Belick (7-6) and Jess Bellizio (7-0), the high jump team of Rebecca Russo and Emily Skalko, both of whom jumped 4-8, and the 4X200 team of Thompson (27.4), Simone Hill (28.2), Jamie Samper (29.1), and Melissa Dardani (26.9) that ran 1:51.7.

South Brunswick endured a cold day at the Kings Relays on Saturday, but came home with many outstanding performances and medals.
Leading the way for the Vikings were first place finishes from Krista Belick in the pole vault (8-6), and Rebecca Russo in the high jump (4-10). Belick's mark also set a new meet record! 2nd place performances went to Indira Morton in the shot put (30-9); Jess Bellizio in the pole vault (7-0); and the freshman/sophomore 4X100 team of Jamie Thompson, Lauryn Strebeck, Zaniah Maynor, and Melissa Dardani that ran 53.82. 3rd place finishes were turned in by the sprint medley team of Rebecca Russo (64.1 400), Dardani (28.7 200), Falen Watson (28.1 200), and Sophia Ginez (2:22.2 800) that ran 4:23.30, and the distance medley team of Bellizio, Russo, Stephanie Rodriguez, and Lyndsey Sample that ran 14:42.
