Kristin Krier was the only Lady Viking to compete over the weekend at the New Balance Nationals in Greensboro, NC. She made the finals in the Championship Javelin, finishing 8th with a throw of 132-7!

6/4/2014 Meet of Champions 0 South Brunswick 0 Krier 3rd at MOC!

The highlight of South Brunswick's showing at the Meet of Champions was Kristin Krier's 3rd place finish in the javelin! Her best throw was 133-9, and her 3rd place is the highest finish by a Viking girl at this meet in 4 years!

5/31/2014 Group IV State Championships 0 South Brunswick 0 Krier Wins 2nd Straight Jav State Title!

Kristin Krier won her 2nd straight Group IV State title in the javelin on Saturday, with an impressive come-from-behind throw of 138-4 on her 6th and final throw! Seeded 3rd entering the meet, and sitting in 4th place after the three trial throws, she moved up to 2nd place on her 5th throw, before her final round throw won it! The throw was 4 inches under her lifetime best, and ranks her as the 2nd seed entering Wednesday's Meet of Champions. Krier is now the 4th girl in school history to win more than one state title in her career. The team's other medalist was Jada-Rae Poku, who cleared a PR of 5-2 to take 6th in the high jump! In addition, Desirae Osley qualified for the Meet of Champs as a wildcard in the 400. Her heat -winning time of 57.61 was a big PR, and placed her 7th overall! Her time also broke the sophomore class school record! Other top-10 finishers were Danielle Hecht, tied for 8th in the pole vault (10-0); Aspen McMillan, who placed 10th in the 100 Hurdles (15.10); and Miranda Irizarry, 10th in the javelin (110-7). Both Hecht and McMillan also qualified for the Meet of Champions as wildcards!

5/28/2014 Holmdel Distance Twilight 0 South Brunswick 0 PR at Holmdel!

Only one Viking girl ran at the Holmdel Twilight Season Ender, but it was worth the trip as Natalie Ginez finished the season with a big 1600 PR of 5:27.42!

5/24/2014 Central Jersey IV Sectionals 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings 3rd at Sectionals

The Lady Vikings scored 60.33 points over the weekend at the Central Jersey Group IV Sectional championships, which placed them 3rd behind Hillsborough and Freehold Township. The team did manage to win 2 events, broke 2 SBHS class records, and advanced a total of 12 athletes to the Group IV State Meet in Egg Harbor next weekend. Athetes advance by placing top-6 in their events. Leading the way on Friday's portion of the meet was Desirae Osley, who made SBHS history when she won the 400 with a time of 58.52! She becomes the first girl in school history to win that event at the Central Jersey sectionals! In addition, she lowered her own sophomore class 200 record on Saturday when she ran 25.68 to take 2nd, and she also ran on the 6th place 4x400! The other Viking winner was Danielle Hecht, who pulled a major upset in winning the pole vault with a PR-tying height of 10-6! Other medalists who will advance to states were: Kristin Krier, 2nd in the javelin (131-1); Rachel VanDemark, 3rd in the javelin (124-7 PR) and 6th in the discus (105-4); Aspen McMillan, 3rd in the 100 Hurdles (14.82) with a time that broke the junior class school record; Jada-Rae Poku, tied for 4th in the high jump (5-0); Denise Porter, 4th in the shot put (35-1.5); Zyjira Thomas, 6th in both the 400 Hurdles (66.32) and 100 Hurdles (15.17); Miranda Irizzary, 6th in the javelin (112-0 PR); Daniella Izzo, 6th in the pole vault (9-6); and the 6th place 4x400 team of Brianna Araque, Osley, Imani Man, and McMillan that ran 4:02.77.

The Vikings defeated Old Bridge on Tuesday to finish the season 5-0 in dual meets, meaning the Class of 2014 will graduate never having lost any type of spring meet against GMC competition in their careers! The team won 9 events and had 24 athletes contribute to the scoring! 5/7/2014 South Brunswick 120 GMC Championships 63 GMC Champs!

The Lady Vikings won their ninth straight GMC Championship on Wednesday night, as they amassed 120 points over the two days to dominate the competition! The team scored in 16 of the 18 events, had 20 athletes contribute to the scoring, won 2 events, and also broke 2 class records along the way!

Leading the way with event victories were Aspen McMillan & Danielle Hecht. McMillan won the 100 Hurdles for the 2nd straight year, in a time of 15.06! McMillan also finished 3rd in the 100 (12.46), 5th in the 400 Hurdles (66.23) and she ran on the 3rd place 4x400. Hecht won the pole vault with a PR-tying height of 10-0! Her victory marks the 4th straight year a Viking has won the pole vault.

2nd place finishes were recorded by: Desirae Osley in the 400 (58.15); Kristin Krier in the javelin (125-1); Rachel VanDemark in the discus (108-3 PR); Zyjira Thomas in the 100 Hurdles (15.12); and Denise Porter in the shot put (35-4.5 PR).

3rd place performances were turned in by Daniella Izzo in the pole vault (9-0); VanDemark in the javelin (108-5); Jada-Rae Poku in the triple jump (35-5.5 PR); and all three relays, as listed below:

5/1/2014 South Brunswick 110 GMC Relays 72 GMC Relays Champs!

The Vikings scored 110 points to capture their 9th straight GMC Relays title on Thursday night! The team won 8 of the 16 events, broke 3 meet records, and 1 all-time Middlesex County record! In all, 24 athletes contributed to the scoring.

The team survived rain, wind, and chilly temps on Tuesday, winning 2 events and scoring 40 points to take the lead after Day 1. After a postponement on Wednesday, the girls won 6 events and added 70 more points under sunny skies on Thursday to win over 2nd place East Brunswick!

Highlighting the performances on Thursday were 3 meet records. The shuttle hurdle team started the record parade with a breakthrough time of 61.85, which not only broke the meet record, but also shattered the 4 year old school record, and 18 year old all-time Middlesex County record! The team of Julia Lekht, Zyjira Thomas, Rochell McDonald, and Aspen McMillan also own the fastest time in the state so far this season!

The other winning relays that broke meet records were the pole vault team of Danielle Hecht, Daniella Izzo, and Nikki Cavett that combined to jump 28-6, which broke the 2-year old mark by another Viking relay by 6 inches! In addition, the javelin team of Kristin Krier, Rachel VanDemark, and Ashna Manhas threw a combined 316-11, beating the same group's record set last year by 5 inches!

Other winning relays on Thursday were: the 4x100 team of Thomas, Desirae Osley, McDonald, and McMillan that ran 48.86, a huge season best and the 5th fastest in NJ so far this year; the triple jump team of Lekht, Jada-Rae Poku, and Annalyse Varlow that jumped 101-0.5; and the shot put team of Denise Porter, Olivia Scattergood, and Brianna Del Piano that threw a combined 97-10.

On the first day of competition, the team started with a victory in the first event, the 3x400 Hurdles. The team of McMillan, Thomas, and Brianna Araque ran a combined 3:22.86, which dominated the field by almost 11 seconds! The team of VanDemark, Del Piano, and Scattergood also won the discus relay by almost 75 feet, with their combined distance of 293-7.

The 1st place finishes in the shot put, discus, and javelin mark the 4th straight year the girls have swept the throwing events at this meet!

4/24/2014 Penn Relays 0 South Brunswick 0 2 Season Bests at Penn!

The Vikings took a small contigent to the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday in Philadelphia, and had several strong performances! Leading the way were two season bests in the sprint relays. In the 4x400, the team of Aspen McMillan, Rochell McDonald, Brianna Araque, and Desirae Osley teamed up to run 4:01.77, a big season best and the 12th fastest time in the meet by a New Jersey school! In the 4x100, Zyjira Thomas joined Osley, McDonald, and McMillan, as the team ran a season best of 50.12. In the field, Kristin Krier just missed her season best in the javelin, coming in 12th with a throw of 124-10.

The Vikings improved to 4-0 on the season Tuesday with a victory over JP Stevens! The team won 13 of the 16 events, and was led by double event winner Julia Lekht, who won the long jump (15-8) and the 100 Hurdles (16.9)! The Vikings won 1 varsity event and medaled in 7 others at the Raider Relays on Saturday in Hillsborough! The team was led by the 3x400 Hurdle relay team's victory with a time of 3:24.31! The team was composed of Aspen McMillan, Zyjira Thomas, and Brianna Araque. Other top-3 relays were the 2nd place 4x100 team of Thomas, Desirae Osley, Rochell McDonald, and McMillan that ran 50.37, and the 2nd place javelin team of Kristin Krier and Rachel VanDemark that combined to throw 210-9.

South Brunswick improved to 3-0 in dual meets on Tuesday with a victory over a tough East Brunswick squad! The team won 9 events and had 18 athletes contribute to the scoring! The team was led by double winners Desirae Osley and Aspen McMillan. Osley won the 100 (12.7) and the 200 (26.1), while McMillan took the 100 Hurdles (15.0) and 400 Hurdles (66.2)! The Vikings sent a small group of pole vaulters to the Blue Devil Classic in Westfield on Saturday, and both relays came home victorious! In the varsity competition, Danielle Hecht (9-6) and Nikki Cavett (8-6) combined for the win, while in the freshman/sophomore competition, Daniella Izzo (9-6 PR) and Maggie Kapan (8-0) took first, with Izzo's mark tying the sophomore class school record!

The Vikings battled strong winds and cool temperatures on Saturday at the Metuchen Relays, but still came home with many medals for top-6 performances in the large school division! Highlighting the performances were three 1st place finishes, led by a meet record in the javelin relay! Kristin Krier (112-3) and Rachel VanDemark (96-6) broke the old record, set by a Viking duo in 2012, by over 2 feet! In addition, the team of Aspen McMillan, Rochell McDonald, Zyjira Thomas, and Desirae Osley won the 4x400 in 4:14.98, and Jada-Rae Poku captured the triple jump with a leap of 32-5! Other top-3 finishes were recorded by the 2nd place 4x100 team of Thomas, Osley, McDonald, and McMillan that ran 50.53; the 3rd place shuttle hurdle team of McMillan, Annalyse Varlow, R. McDonald, and Khadija McDonald that ran 70.83; and the 3rd place discus team of Olivia Scattergood (97-10) and Denise Porter (89-6) that threw a combined 187-6.
