The Vikings had a terrrific showing on Wednesday night at the Meet of Champions, as 7 of the 11 athletes who competed came home with medals! The highlight of the meet was the 100 Hurdles race, where both Aspen McMillan and Zyjira Thomas earned medals! McMillan finished in 2nd with a time of 14.53, while Thomas was 4th in 14.66! Kristin Krier earned a 4th place medal in the Javelin with her distance of 133-1, her second best mark this season! The Vikings closed the meet in style with 8th place medals in the 4x400! The team of Rochell McDonald, Essence Baker, Brianna Araque, and Desirae Osley ran a quick 3:57.85 despite the cool temperatures, the second fastest they have run this season!

5/30/2015 Group IV State Championships 0 South Brunswick 0 1 State Champ & 11 Advance to MOC!
The Vikings had a strong showing over the weekend at the Group IV State Championships in Egg Harbor! The team finished in 6th place overall, but had one individual state champion, 9 athletes earn medals, and a total of 11 advance to the Meet of Champions on Wednesday! Leading the way with a record-breaking performance was Kristin Krier, who won the Group IV State title in the Javelin for the 3rd consecutive year! Her first throw of 139'8 proved to be the winner, and the mark also set a school and Middlesex County record for the new javelin, which was introduced in 2002! In the 100 Hurdles, the team earned two top spots, with Zyjira Thomas finishing 2nd in a very close race with a PR of 14.39, a time that almost broke the school record! In 3rd place was Aspen McMillan, who ran 14.50 (14.42 in the trials)! Other medalists were Desirae Osley in the 400 (5th, 57.29 PR); Daniella Izzo in the Pole Vault (5th, 10'0); Miranda Irizarry, 5th in the Javelin (120'10); and the 4x400 team of Rochell McDonald, Essence Baker, Brianna Araque, and Osley that finished 4th in 3:59.01. Others advancing to the Meet of Champions as wildcards are Denise Porter, who finished 8th in the Shot Put with a PR of 37'2.75", and Danielle Hecht, who finished 8th in the Pole Vault (10'0). In addition, the 4x100 team (Thomas, Osley, McDonald, McMillan) qualified as wildcards, as did Osley in the 200 (10th in 25.64), meaning she qualified for the Meet of Champs in the maximum of 4 events!

5/23/2015 South Brunswick 108 Central Jersey IV Sectionals 75 Sectional Champions!!!
The Vikings had a terrific two days of competition at the Central Jersey Group IV Sectional Championships at Hillsborough, scoring a total of 108 points to come away with the title over a loaded field! The meet featured a total of five county championship winning teams, and was arguably the toughest sectional in the state. The team scored in 14 of the 18 events, won 4 events, and had a program all-time best 19 athletes earn medals for their top-6 finishes!
Individual sectional champions on Friday were Kristin Krier, who won her first sectional title in the javelin with a season-best of 128'10, and Desirae Osley, who captured her second straight title in the 400 with a time of 57.85! Osley was also 2nd in the 200 (25.86) and ran on medal-winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays!
On Saturday, Aspen McMillan won her first outdoor sectional title with a victory in the 100 Hurdles (14.60), to go along with her 2nd place finish in the 100 (12.48) on Friday, and her anchor leg on the 3rd place 4x100. The 4x400 relay cemented the team's victory with an impressive winning time of 3:55.16, the 2nd fastest time in the state during Sectionals weekend! The lineup of Rochell McDonald, Essence Baker, Brianna Araque, and Osley becomes the 3rd fastest in school history, with Osley coming from behind on the anchor to seal the victory!
Other top-3 finishes were recorded by Zyjira Thomas, 2nd in both the 100 Hurdles (14.64 PR) and the 400 Hurdles (65.45 PR); Daniella Izzo, 3rd in the Pole Vault (10'6 =PR); Miranda Irizarry, 3rd in the Javelin (116'9); and the 4x100 team of Thomas, Osley, McDonald, and McMillan that ran 49.05 for 3rd place.
Also moving on to the Group IV State Meet are Danielle Hecht, 4th in the Pole Vault (10'0); Courteney Campbell, 4th in the High Jump (5'2 PR); Olivia Scattergood, 4th in the Discus (113'4 PR); Jada-Rae Poku, 5th in the Triple Jump (36'4.5 PR); Maggie Kaplan, 6th in the Pole Vault (9'0), Denise Porter, 6th in the Shot Put (36'0.25); Brianna Del Piano, 6th in the Discus (108'10); and the 4x800 team of Natalie Ginez, Imani Man, Nicole Fenske, and Baker that ran a season-best of 9:51.15.

The South Brunswick freshmen had their turn to shine on Wednesday in Old Bridge, as they earned their own GMC Championship! The team won 5 events and scored 116 points to run away with the title! Event winners in the field were Camryn Meranchik in the Pole Vault (8'6) and Paige Buchanan in the javelin (85'4). On the track, winners were Isha Thapar in the 3200 (12:36.13 PR), Ominay Robertson in the 100 Hurdles (17.87 PR), and the 4x400 team of Misha Duverger, Robertson, Raquel Ferrara, and Inayah Jones that ran 4:30.76.

5/16/2015 South Brunswick 152 GMC Championships 88 Vikings Win 10th Straight GMC Title!
South Brunswick won 6 of the 18 events and amassed 152 points to run away with their 10th straight GMC Championship on Friday & Saturday in South Plainfield! The team had 18 different athletes contribute to the scoring, swept two events with 1st-2nd-3rd place finishes, and had another two events with 1st-2nd place finishes!
Leading the way with a sweep of the top-3 places on Friday were the pole vaulters, who all set or tied PRs! Daniella Izzo won her first GMC title with leap of 10-6, while Danielle Hecht cleared the same height in 2nd place. Maggie Kaplan completed the sweep with a height of 9-6!
On Saturday, the Discus throwers equaled the vaulters sweep with 24 points of their own! Brianna Del Piano won the GMC title with a near-PR of 111-11, and joined her older brother and sisters as the 4th and final Del Piano sibling to win an individual GMC title! Olivia Scattergood threw a PR of 108-0 for 2nd place, while Denise Porter threw 103-6 to grab 3rd!
Earning a 1-2 finish in the javelin on Friday night were Kristin Krier and Miranda Irizarry! Krier won her first GMC title with a throw of 126-11, while Irizarry threw a PR of 125-4 to take 2nd!
The final 1-2 punch was turned in on Saturday by the 100 Hurdlers. Zyjira Thomas won her first GMC title with a PR of 14.88! She was followed by Aspen McMillan, who was 2nd in 15.02. McMillan also won her own individual title on Friday with a victory in the 100 (12.52), which marked the 2nd time she has won the GMC title in that event!
The other event winner for the Vikings was the 4x100 team of Thomas, Desirae Osley, Rochell McDonald, and McMillan that ran 49.34!
Other top-3 finishers over the two days were: Osley, who took 2nd in both the 400 (57.95) and 200 (25.56); Irizarry in the shot put (2nd, 36-1 PR); the 4x800 team of Imani Man, Annalyse Varlow, Nikki Sendner, and Nicole Fenske that ran 10:00.54 for 2nd; Porter in the Shot Put (3rd. 35-3.5); and Jada-Rae Poku in the Triple Jump (3rd, 35-2).
Many other athletes also had PRs and great performances during the meet!

With a 100-36 over JP Stevens on Tuesday, the Vikings helped the Class of 2015 to finish their 4-year dual meet careers with an undefeated record! The 5-0 record this season marks the 9th straight year the team has finished without a loss in dual meets, as well as their 9th straight Red Division title. Against JP Stevens, the team won 11 of the 16 events! The Vikings were led by double event winner Denise Porter, who captured the Shot Put (35-1) and the Discus (98-11)! The Vikings came out on top with a 81-59 victory over a tough & determined East Brunswick team on Tuesday to improve to 4-0! The team won 8 events and had many great performances! In the field, victories were recorded by Daniella Izzo in the Pole Vault (10'0), Sydney Schneider in the High Jump (5'0), Kristin Krier in the Javelin (126'2), and Brianna Del Piano in the Discus (112'3). On the track, the team swept the hurdles, with Zyjira Thomas taking the 100 Hurdles (14.8), and Aspen McMillan winning the 400 Hurdles (67.5). Natalie Ginez was the other individual winner, as she won the 3200 (11:53.8). Closing the day with a tremendous performance was the 4x400 team of Rochell McDonald, Latisha Witherspoon, Annalyse Varlow, and Essence Baker that won with a time of 3:59.8, the fastest South Brunswick has ever run in a dual meet, and the first sub-4:00 4x400 relay for SB in 3 years!

The Vikings had a successful day at the Mercer Twilight Invitational on Saturday! The team won five events and had many other medalists! Leading the way with a meet record was the 800 Sprint Medley team of Essence Baker, Aspen McMillan, Rochell McDonald, and Desirae Osley that ran 1:48.83 for the victory! Their time is the 2nd fastest in school history, and the 3rd best in the state so far this season! McMillan was the other winner on the track, as she captured the 100 Hurdles in 15.46! In the field, the team swept the throwing events. Denise Porter won the Shot Put (34-9) and the Discus (105-1), while Kristin Krier won the Javelin (119-5). Other top-3 finishers were 2nd place performances by McDonald (100 Hurdles, 16.28); Brianna Del Piano (Discus, 103-5); Miranda Irizarry (Javelin 111-10); Jada-Rae Poku (Triple Jump 33-10.5); and the 4x400 team of Brianna Araque, Annalyse Varlow, Latisha Witherspoon, and Baker that ran 4:06.64. 3rd place finishes went to Daniella Izzo (Pole Vault, 10-0) and Irizarry (Shot Put, 33-3). Also of note was Natalie Ginez's 800 time of 2:23.82, which was a 4-second PR and the 6th fastest time in school history!

5/1/2015 Frosh/Soph Meet 0 South Brunswick 0 Many Medalists at Metuchen Frosh/Soph!
The Vikings had many great performances at the 3rd installment of Metuchen's Frosh/Soph Meets! The team had 18 athletes earn medals for their top-10 individual performances, or top-6 relays! In the field, the team won both freshman throwing events! Alexis Adams won the shot put (31-6.75), while Paige Buchanan won the javelin (80-6) and also finished 7th in the shot put (25-7). Ashley Darkwa-Anto was also 6th in the shot put, with a best of 25-11.25. In the sophomore shot put, Olivia Scattergood was 2nd (32-1), while Cyanna Padmore was 3rd (26-6). On the track, the 4x200 'A' team of Chloe Hypolite, Stephanie Steiner-Otoo, Ominay Robertson, and Inayah Jones ran a strong race to take 2nd in 1:50.40! In distance events, Malvika Narayan (4th, 6:08.17) and Danae Audibert (6th, 6:08.24) both medaled in the frosh 1600, while Gabby Trapani (7th, 6:13.00) placed in the sophomore 1600. In the frosh 800, Isha Thapar placed 8th (2:40.67) and Isabella Leite was 10th (2:43.79). The team closed the night with medals from all five 100 hurdlers! Nicole Notarianni won the sophomore race (17.40), while Robertson won the frosh division (18.17). Also in the frosh race, Nitisha Utkoori (3rd, 19.08), Misha Duverger (4th,19.28), and Gabby Mc Lean (8th, 20.35) all medaled.

4/28/2015 South Brunswick 144 Middlesex County Relays 87 10th Straight GMC Relays Title!
The South Brunswick girls' track & field team had a record-breaking two days to win its 10th straight GMC Relays title! The team had one of the greatest performances in school & meet history by scoring 144 points (out of a possible 160) and winning 11 of the 16 events held over the two days! The team also broke one meet record, and had 26 athletes contribute to the scoring barrage! Leading the way with the maximum of 4 gold medals each were Aspen McMillan, Zyjira Thomas, and Rochell McDonald!
On Monday, the team won 4 events and compiled 62 points! Victories on the track were the 3x400 Hurdles team of McMillan, Thomas, and Brianna Araque that ran 3:20.93 to capture the win for the 2nd straight year! McMillan and Thomas later joined Desirae Osley and McDonald to win the 4x200 in 1:45.40 (and the same four returned the next day to win the 4x100 in 49.16, the 2nd year in a row they won that event)! In the field, winning relays on day 1 were the discus team of Brianna Del Piano (107-6), Denise Porter (103-6), and Miranda Irizarry (84-0) that combined for 295-0, and the the Triple Jump trio of Jada-Rae Poku (34-10), Annalyse Varlow (32-9.25), and Maggie Kaplan (30-5.5) that combined to jump 98-0.75.
On Tuesday, the team of Thomas, Sydney Schneider, McDonald, and McMillan ran 61.88 to complete the sweep of hurdle events by winning the shuttle hurdles with a time that is the fastest in the state so far, and just missed the school & county record! Also on the track, the 4x400 team of McDonald, Essence Baker, Araque, and Osley closed the victory parade with a winning time of 4:01.93!
In the field on Tuesday, the team completed the 5th straight year of winning all three throwing relays! The Shot Put team of Porter (36-11.25), Irizarry (34-4.5), and Alexis Adams (33-3) threw a combined 104-7.75 for the win, while the javelin team of Kristin Krier (120-6), Irizarry (114-0), and Paige Buchanan (76-11) threw 311-5 to grab the victory! The Long Jump team of Poku (16-3), Schneider (15-11), and Varlow (15-3.25) took the victory with a distance of 47-5.25. And last but not least, the Pole Vault relay of Danielle Hecht (10-0), Daniella Izzo (10-0), and Camryn Meranchik (9-6) jumped a combined 29-6 to beat the school record set by SB last year by a foot!

4/23/2015 Penn Relays 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Perform Well at Penn Relays!
The Vikings performed well on Thursday at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, in spite of strong winds and unseasonably cold temperatures! On the track, the 4x100 team of Zyjira Thomas, Desirae Osley, Rochell McDonald, and Aspen McMillan ran 50.03 to win their heat! Their time was also the 4th fastest New Jersey time of the day! The 4x400 team of Osley, McDonald, Essence Baker, and McMillan ran a season best of 4:04.91 to finish 2nd in their heat and earn medals! Their time was the 5th fastest for a New Jersey school. In the field, Kristin Krier threw a season best of 127-5 to take 11th in the javelin!

4/18/2015 Colts Neck Relays 0 South Brunswick 0 Great Showing at Colts Neck!
The Vikings had a great showing at the Colts Neck Relays under warm & sunny skies on Saturday! The team won 8 varsity events (4 field, 4 running), 5 novice events, and medaled in many others! Leading the victory parade in the field events was the throwing group that swept all 6 varsity & novice throwing events! In the varsity events, Denise Porter (34-5) and Miranda Irizarry (33-11.5) won the Shot Put relay, Brianna Del Piano (101-1) and Porter (95-1) won the Discus; and Kristin Krier (126-9) and Irizarry (116-6) won the Javelin! In jumping events, the Pole Vault duo of Daniella Izzo and Danielle Hecht both jumped 10-0 to combine for the win! On the track, the team had commanding victories in 3 relays. The shuttle hurdle team of Zyjira Thomas, Rochell McDonald, Nicole Notarianni, and Aspen McMillan ran 62.64, the fastest time in the state so far this season, and the 3rd fastest all-time in school history!
In the 4x100, the team of Thomas, Desirae Osley, McDonald, and McMillan ran 48.93 for the win, won of the top times in school history and also #3 in the state this season! The final relay victory was the 4x200 team of Brianna Araque, Essence Baker, Thomas, and Osley that ran 1:45.17! Osley closed the day with a victory in the 400 in a time of 58.22, and led a 1st-4th sweep by her teammates (and 8 of the top 9 finishers!) Also of note was McDonald's 2nd place time of 58.82, which makes her the 6th fastest all-time in school history!

The Vikings improved their dual meet record to 2-0 with a 90-50 victory at Old Bridge on Tuesday! The team won 10 events and had 23 different scorers!
The team was led by double winner Aspen McMillan, who took the long jump (16-3.5) and 100 Hurdles (15.1)! Field event winners were Jada-Rae Poku in the triple jump (32-5), Danielle Hecht in the pole vault (9-6), and Kristin Krier in the javelin (114-5). On the track, individual winners were Brianna Araque in the 400 Hurdles (69.7), Desirae Osley in the 800 (2:26.2), Rochell McDonald in the 200 (27.0), and Natalie Ginez in the 3200 (11:53.1). The team also won the 4x400 relay, with Greta Rusbarsky, Latisha Witherspoon, Imani Man, and Araque running a time of 4:20.

The Vikings had a great showing in the chilly & windy conditions Saturday at the Raider Relays in Hillsborough! The team won 5 varsity events, 3 novice events, and medaled in many others! In the field, the javelin duo of Miranda Irizarry & Kristin Krier took 1st with a combined mark of 228-4, with Irizarry throwing a big PR of 121-6! In addition, the pole vault tandem of Daniella Izzo (9-0) and Danielle Hecht (8-6) tied for 1st! On the track, the Vikings won the 4x100 (50.76), 4x400 (4:09.05), and Shuttle Hurdles (63.79)! Running on all three teams was Rochell McDonald! Zyjira Thomas & Aspen McMillan were on the 4x100 & Shuttle teams, while Desirae Osley ran on both the 4x100 and 4x400 teams! Rounding out the winning relays were Sydney Schneider on the Shuttle team, and Brianna Araque and Essence Baker on the 4x400.

The Vikings opened the season with a 122-18 victory over Piscataway on Tuesday! The team won 14 of the 16 events, and had 26 athletes contribute to the scoring! Leading the way with multiple individual victories were Aspen McMillan and Nicole Fenske. McMillan won the long jump with a PR of 16-7, and also won the 100 Hurdles (14.5) and 400 Hurdles (67.4). Fenske won the 1600 (5:45) and the 3200 (13:09). Other athletes who won events were Natalie Ginez, 800 (2:28.9); Brianna Araque, 200 (27.4); Jada-Rae Poku, triple jump (32-10.75); Danielle Hecht, pole vault (10-0); Sydney Schneider, high jump (4-8); Miranda Irizarry, shot put (35-3); Olivia Scattergood, discus (92-2); Kristin Krier, javelin (121-1); and the 4x400 team of Essence Baker, Imani Man, Ginez, and Rochell McDonald that ran 4:11.4.
