3/8/2020 Meet of Champions 0 South Brunswick 0 1 Medalist & Several PRs at MOC!
South Brunswick ended its winter season with several strong performances at the Meet of Champions at Ocean Breeze on Staten Island! Melanie LaCorte earned the team's lone medal, as her leap of 5'2 in the High Jump earned her a tie for 4th place! Other athletes who had PRs were Dafina Simon-Ponte in the 800 (2:18.93, 6th all-time in school history); Yashika Chidirala in the 3200 (11:23.55, 7th all-time in school history) and in the 4x800 (2:22); and the 4x800 team of Nina Liu, Chidirala, Serena Hutchison, and Simon-Ponte that ran a season-best of 9:41.76 with Hutchison also setting a PR on her leg!

2/29/2020 Group IV State Championships 0 South Brunswick 0 7 Qualify for Meet of Champs!
The Vikings had a strong showing at the Group IV State Championships, with 4 athletes earning medals and a total of 7 who will qualify to compete at the Meet of Champions! Melanie La Corte finished 4th in the High Jump (5'2), Dafina Simon-Ponte finished 5th in the 800 (2:21.78), Liz Matticoli was 6th in the Shot Put (36-6.5), and Khushi Gupta was 6th in the High Jump (5'2)! In addition to the four mentioned, Yashika Chidirala's time of 11:24.60 in the 3200 also earned her a wildcard to MOC, while the 4x800 team also qualified based on their season best, with Serena Hutchison and Nina Liu joining Simon-Ponte and Chidirala on that team!

2/22/2020 Central Jersey IV Sectionals 0 South Brunswick 0 3rd Place at Sectionals!
South Brunswick had 10 athletes advance to the Group IV State Championships due to their top-6 finishes at the Central Jersey IV Sectionals on Saturday night! The team compiled 44.5 points to finish in 3rd place overall as a team! Leading the way was double individual medalist Yashika Chidirala. She placed 2nd in the 3200 (11:31) and 4th in the 1600 (5:20), with both times setting new indoor personal bests! Also finishing 2nd were Khushi Gupta (High Jump, 5'2) and Liz Matticoli (Shot Put, 37'10.5)! Fourth place finishes were recorded by Melanie La Corte in the High Jump (5'0), Dafina Simon-Ponte in the 800 (2:22.09), and the 4x400 relay team of Simon-Ponte, Zi'yanah Baker, Asha Muller, and Nina Liu that ran a big season best of 4:13.49! Other top-6 finishes were recorded by Edith Gonzalez, 5th in the Shot Put (35'9.25), Hannah Trpisovsky, tied for 5th in the Pole Vault (8'6), and Nina Liu, 6th in the 800 (2:27.17)!

2/15/2020 Purple Champions Invitational 0 South Brunswick 0 Strong Performances in NY!
South Brunswick had many great performances at the Purple Champions Invite at the NY Armory on Saturday! Leading the way with a victory in the High Jump was Melanie LaCorte, whose winning jump of 5'3.25 puts her at 4th place on the school's all-time list! Khushi Gupta finished right behind her in 2nd, with her leap of 5'2.25 earning her 5th on the all-time list! In addition, Yashika Chidirala ran 3:07 in the 1000, which is 4th all-time in GMC history, while Dafina Simon-Ponte and Serena Hutchison also ran times that place them in the top-10!

2/3/2020 Varsity Classic 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Run Well in NYC!
Fresh off their GMC title, the Vikings took a small group to the Varsity Classic on Monday night in New York, and came home with an outstanding performance in the 4x800! The team of Dafina Simon-Ponte, Yashika Chidirala, Liann Zyontz, and Nina Liu ran a time of 9:42.67, with all 4 girls setting new personal bests! The time was 7th in the competitive field, but is the 4th fastest indoors in school history!

2/1/2020 South Brunswick 60 GMC Championships 43 Vikings Win 6th Straight GMC Title!
The Vikings had an outstanding meet on Saturday at the GMC Championships and captured the team's 6th straight GMC indoor title! The team scored 60 points, had 10 medal winners, 2 individual champions, and many personal bests! The team was led by event winners Liz Matticoli and Khushi Gupta. Matticoli had a tremendous performance in the shot put, improving her PR by over 2 feet with her throw of 38-4.5! Her mark is now 5th all-time in school history. Gupta jumped a PR of 5-2 in the High Jump, which now ties her for 4th all-time in school history! Other athletes who earned medals for their top-6 performances were: Melanie La Corte, 2nd in the High Jump (5'2 PR, also tied for 4th in school history); Hannah Trpisovsky, tied for 2nd in the Pole Vault (8'6); Yashika Chidirala, 3rd in the 1600 (5:21 indoor PR) and 4th in the 3200 (11:52); Edith Gonzalez, 3rd in the Shot Put (36'0); Dafina Simon-Ponte, 4th in the 800 (2:24 PR); Darrian Provo, 5th in the Shot Put (30-10.25); Srinidhi Gopalan, 5th in the 3200 (12:01 PR); and Isabel Sananes, 6th in the Pole Vault (7'6).

The Vikings performed well at the Toms River Frosh/Novice meet on Thursday! Many athletes earned medals and set new personal bests. Highlights were the following athletes who won their events: In the freshman Shot Put, Darrian Provo threw a PR of 32'0, while Krista Oliver won the freshman High Jump at 4'4! In the novice 55 Dash, Asha Muller finished 1st with a PR of 7.76!

The Vikings had two 3rd place finishes to highlight the team's performance at the Group IV State Relays on Sunday in Toms River! The Shot Put team of Liz Matticoli and Edith Gonzaez combined to throw 71'6.75, which broke the school's Bennett Center Shot Put relay record! In the High Jump, Khushi Gupta and Melanie La Corte jumped a combined 10'0 for their 3rd place finish!

1/11/2020 South Brunswick 60 Middlesex County Relays 35 GMC Relays Champs!
South Brunswick won the GMC Relays title for the 6th straight year on Saturday night in Toms River! Two relay teams finished first, but the team showed great depth by scoring in every varsity relay to total 60 points! The winning relay teams were the two vertical jumps. The pole vault duo of Hannah Trpisovsky and Isabel Sananes jumped a combined 17'0, while Melanie La Corte and Khushi Gupta jumped 10'0 combined to win the high jump!

The Vikings had another strong early season showing at the South Jersey Coaches meet in Toms River on Saturday! The team had 5 athletes earn medals for their top-3 performances, while many others placed top-6 or set new season bests! The top finishes were 2nd places turned in by Dafina Simon-Ponte in the 800 (2:34.02), and Khushi Gupta and Melanie La Corte, who both jumped 5'0 to tie for 2nd in the High Jump! 3rd place finishes were recorded by Yashika Chidirala in the 1600 (5:28), and Nina Liu in the 800 (2:34.23).

The Vikings had many athletes earn medals at the Coach Glynn Holiday Carnival on Saturday, in freshman, novice, and varsity divisions! Highlights were the following athletes who earned medals in the varsity events: Edith Gonzalez, 3rd in the Shot Put (34'1); Khushi Gupta & Melanie La Corte, who tied for 3rd in the High Jump with indoor PRs of 5'0; Liz Matticoli, 4th in the Shot Put (33'9); Yashika Chidirala, 6th in the 3200 (11:56.10); the 6th place 4x800 relay of Ava Hutchison, Farah Nassim, Kayla Gater, and Sumedha Kommaraju that ran 11:17.88; and the 6th place 4x200 team of Samiyah Hargrove, Asha Muller, Kirsten Man, and Gina Pinto that ran 1:54.51. The lone gold medalist in an individual event was Gina Pinto, who ran a big PR of 7.79 to win the Novice 55 Dash!
