Recap of each day of the New Balance Indoor Nationals, March 11-13.
On day one of the New Balance Indoor Nationals in New York, Cayla Del Piano won the Emerging Elite mile with a personal best of 5:01.59! Her quick final 400 meters brought her home in a time that broke the school and Middlesex County indoor records, and the time also converts to a sub-5:00 1600!
In other action, Alicia Osley finished 11th in the Emerging Elite 400 with a time of 58.92.
The Vikings had a great day on Saturday at the Indoor Nationals, as the girls sprint medley team became the first relay in girls school history to earn All-American honors with their 4th place finish! The team of Rachel Johnson (26.7), Janae Baker(25.6), Alicia Osley (58.5), and Cayla Del Piano (2:16.7) ran a time of 4:07.95 to finish 2nd in the unseeded heat, and then beat all but 2 teams in the seeded heat to claim 4th overall! Their time also crushed the old indoor school record by 6 seconds!
In addition, Mariah Browne made the finals of the long jump, where she finished 8th with a mark of 18-4.25.
Other competitors on day two of Nationals included the 4x200 team of Osley (25.9), Browne (25.8), Baker (25.5), and Johnson (26.2) that ran a time of 1:43.73 to take 16th.
The Lady Vikings closed the indoor season in style on Sunday at the New Balance Indoor Nationals, as the 4x400 team ran 3:56.73 to break the 6 year old Middlesex County record! The team of Janae Baker (61.1), Joy Spriggs (58.9), Cayla Del Piano (58.6), and Alicia Osley (57.9) took over a second off the school record they set 2 weeks ago, and lowered the county record by almost .4 seconds! They ended up finishing 15th in a competitive field.
Mariah Browne was the other competitor on Sunday, as she finished up in 23rd in the triple jump with a best of 36-6.75.

3/1/2011 Easterns 0 South Brunswick 0 Records Fall at Easterns!
South Brunswick had a great night at the Easterns in New York, as two relay teams medaled and broke school records, along with 3 individuals who also earned medals! For the girls, the 4x200 and 4x400 teams shattered the school records set last year! The 4x200 team of Alicia Osley, Mariah Browne, Janae Baker, and Rachel Johnson ran a swift 1:43.35 to place 5th! Closing the night with a 2nd place finish was the 4x400 team of Baker, Joy Spriggs, Cayla Del Piano, and Osley who combined to run 3:57.91, almost 2 seconds faster than the old record! Individuals that won medals were Browne, who finished 2nd in the long jump with an excellent mark of 18-7.25, and Del Piano, who finished 6th in the 800 with a new PR of 2:17.79!

2/26/2011 Meet of Champions 0 South Brunswick 0 5 Medalists at MOC!
South Brunswick had a great showing Saturday at the Meet of Champions, as 5 of the 9 athletes who competed came home with medals!
For the girls, the 4x400 team lowered their season best to 4:00.40 and finished 3rd! The quartet of Janae Baker, Joy Spriggs, Cayla Del Piano, and Alicia Osley are the first team in school history to medal in that event at an indoor or outdoor Meet of Champs! Del Piano also ran a great race in the 1600 to take 4th with a PR of 5:03.24! Chloe Hall was the other medalist for the girls, as she moved up 18 spots from her pre-meet seed to take 6th with a throw of 36-9.5! In addition, Osley ran a strong race in the 400 with her indoor PR of 58.45, a time that placed her 9th.

2/18/2011 Group IV State Championships 0 South Brunswick 0 5 Medalists at States!
The Vikings had a strong showing at the Group IV State Championships on Friday night, as 5 girls earned medals and advanced to the Meet of Champions! In addition, 3 more athletes qualified as wildcards.
The girls team scored 17 points and placed 6th overall, the best finish in the school's Group IV history! Leading the way was the 4x400 team which finished 2nd in a season-best time of 4:00.45! The team of Janae Baker, Joy Spriggs, Cayla Del Piano, and Alicia Osley took 3 seconds off their time from last week, and their time is also the 2nd fastest indoors in school history!
Del Piano and Osley also advanced to the MOC as individuals. Del Piano ran an indoor PR of 5:06.14 to take 4th in the 1600, and Osley was close to her indoor PR with her 6th place time of 59.05 in the 400!
The team's other medalist was Amber Brown, who was 4th in the shot put (37-0).
In addition to the medalists, 2 other Vikings qualified as wildcards for MOC. Chloe Hall was 8th in the shot put (35-11.25), Lindsay Carbone was tied for 8th in the pole vault (9-6 =PR)!

2/11/2011 Central Jersey Sectionals 0 South Brunswick 0 Girls Win 3rd Straight Sectional Title!
The Lady Vikings scored 71.5 points Friday night and rolled to their 3rd straight Central Jersey IV Sectional title! The team won 3 events, scored in 8 of the 10 events, and had a total of 11 athletes qualify for the Group IV State Championships! The boys scored 15.33 points and finished 8th, with 4 athletes moving on to the state meet.
The girls were led by Cayla Del Piano, Alicia Osley, and Amber Brown, each of whom won events. Del Piano captured the 1600 in an indoor personal best 5:10.20, finished 3rd in the 800 with a 2:19.95 indoor PR, and ran 3rd leg on the 2nd place 4x400 team! Osley ran an indoor PR of 58.99 to win the 400 by almost a second, and also ran anchor on the 4x400! Brown threw a big PR of 37-5.25 on her 6th and final throw of the shot put for the win!
Other medalists were Chloe Hall, who threw a 2.5 foot PR in the shot put of 37-1.5 to grab 2nd; Mariah Browne, 3rd in the 55 (7.52, 7.48 trials); Janae Baker, 4th in the 400 (60.51); Jen O'Laughlin, 4th in the 55 Hurdles (8.94 PR); Lindsay Carbone, 4th in the pole vault (9-6 =PR); Rachel Johnson, 6th in the 55 (7.59); and Savannah Barton, tied for 6th in the pole vault (7-6). The 4x400 team of Baker, Joy Spriggs, Del Piano, and Osley finished a close 2nd in a season-best 4:03.46!

The Vikings traveled to FDU on Wednesday for a Field Event only meet, and came home with many great performances!
For the girls, Mariah Browne won the long jump with a season best of 18-9, and also took 2nd in the triple jump with another season best of 37-3!
Amber Brown had a big PR to win the shot put (37-5.5), and Lindsay Carbone PRed en route to victory in the Pole Vault (9-6)!

1/29/2011 GMC Championships 0 South Brunswick 0 5th Straight GMC Title!
The Lady Vikings won their 5th straight GMC title on Saturday in Toms River! The team won 5 of the 10 events and scored 59 points! The boys team finished in 5th with 24 points.
The girls were led by triple gold medalist Cayla Del Piano. She won the 1600 (5:26.45) for the 2nd straight year, came back to win the 3200 (11:50.96), and ran a leg on the winning 4x400!
Alicia Osley was a double winner, as she captured the 400 (59.99 indoor PR) for the 2nd straight year, and also ran anchor on the winning 4x400!
Lindsay Carbone was the other individual winner, as she took the pole vault with a jump of 8-6!
In addition to Del Piano and Osley, the winning 4x400 team was rounded out by Janae Baker and Joy Spriggs, who combined to run 4:06.48!
Also medaling for the girls were the following athletes: Rachel Johnson, 4th in the 55 Hurdles (8.97 PR) and 5th in the 55 (7.55); Mariah Browne, 3rd in the 55 (7.44); Savannah Barton, 3rd in the pole vault (7-6); Chloe Hall, 4th in the shot put (33-9 PR); Amber Brown, 5th in the shot put (33-9); and Joy Spriggs, 6th in the 800 (2:29.29).

1/19/2011 Middlesex County Relays 0 South Brunswick 0 Girls Win 4th Straight Title!
The Lady Vikings won their 4th straight Middlesex County Relays title on Wednesday night in Toms River! The team won 6 out of 9 varsity events and scored 63 points! The boys team finished in 3rd place with a total of 35 points.
For the girls, the team closed the night with a meet record in the 4x400! The foursome of Janae Baker, Joy Spriggs, Cayla Del Piano, and Alicia Osley ran 4:06.47 to break the 5-year old record.
Other victories on the track were recorded by the 4x200 team of Osley, Mariah Browne, Baker, and Rachel Johnson that ran 1:47.22; the shuttle hurdle team of Jen O'Laughlin, Savannah Barton, Baker, and Johnson that ran 34.64; and the Sprint Medley team of Julia Bossert (400), Johnson (200), Browne (200), and Del Piano (800) that ran 4:23.65.
In the field, the shot put team of Amber Brown (35-9 PR) and Chloe Hall (32-10) combined for a first place mark of 68-7, and the pole vault relay of Lindsay Carbone (8-6) and Barton (7-6) also won with a mark of 16-0.
For the boys, the team won all 3 field events! Dominick Padovano (52-11) and Adam Dickert (47-7.5 PR) threw a combined 100-6.5 in the shot put for the win! The boys also won the high jump with Derek Forthun (6-0) and Kaseem Davis (5-10 PR) combining for a mark of 11-10. The Vikings other victory came in the pole vault, where Forthun (11-6) and Jaleel Alston (10-6) combined to jump 22-0.

1/14/2011 Group IV State Relays 0 South Brunswick 0 4 State Relay Medalists!
Competing indoors for the first time in over 2 weeks, the Vikings had a strong showing at the Group IV State Relays in Toms River.
The highlight was the boys shot put relay winning the state title with a combined throw of 100-0! The team of Dominick Padovano and Adam Dickert became the 3rd different Viking duo since 2005 to win this event at the State Relays! Padovano threw a massive PR of over 2 feet with his best of 54-10.5, and Dickert added a 45-1.5!
The Lady Vikings had 3 medal winning relays to highlight a 5th place overall finish. Finishing in 3rd was the 4x200 team of Alicia Osley, Mariah Browne, Janae Baker, and Rachel Johnson that ran 1:48.01, and the Sprint Medley team of Baker (400), Johnson (200), Browne (200), and Cayla Del Piano (800) that came out of the unseeded section to place 3rd in 4:19.67! Finishing in 4th was the shot put team of Amber Brown (35-0 =PR) and Chloe Hall (33-6.5 PR) who combined to throw 68-6.5!

The Vikings finally got to compete over winter break, and came home from the NY Armory with many fine performances
For the boys, the duo of Jon Pitt (42-10 PR) and Derek Forthun (41-6) won the triple jump relay with their combined mark of 84-4!
Also medaling for the boys was the shot put team of Dominick Padovano (51-5.5) and Adam Dickert (45-5.5 PR), who finished 2nd with a combined total of 96-11!
For the girls, the top place was the Distance Medley relay, which finished 2nd in the non-championship section! The team of Julia Bossert, Alicia Osley, Joy Spriggs, and Cayla Del Piano ran a time of 12:53.20.
Also medaling for the girls was the 3rd place triple jump tandem of Mariah Browne (35-0.75) and Jen O'Laughlin (33-4) that combined for 68-4.75; the 4th place 4x200 team of Osley, Browne, Janae Baker, and Rachel Johnson that ran 1:48.05; the 6th place shot put team of Amber Brown (33-2.5) and Chloe Hall (30-6.5); and the 6th place pole vault team of Lindsay Carbone (9-0 PR) and Savannah Barton (7-0) who combined to jump 16-0.

The Vikings opened the winter season Saturday in Toms River at the Merli Invitational. There were several notable performances for both the boys and the girls. For the boys, Derek Forthun won the pole vault with an indoor PR of 11-6! Also medaling for the boys was Dominick Padovano, who threw a PR of 50-0 in the shot put to take 3rd!
For the girls, Cayla Del Piano had a great stretch run to win the 800 with a time of 2:24.38!
Also medaling in individual events for the girls was Lindsay Carbone, who finished 6th in the pole vault with a leap of 8-0 in her first-ever track meet, and Rachel Johnson, who ran 7.87 (7.76 trials) to finish 6th in the 55 dash!
The Lady Vikings finished the day with a 3rd place finish in the 4x400. Janae Baker, Shadae Riggins, Joy Spriggs, and Alicia Osley clocked a time of 4:16.43.
