3/10/2006 Nationals 0 South Brunswick 0 Viking Girls End Season With Two Relay Records!
The Viking girls ended their season in style with two school indoor relay records at the National Championships in New York. On the first day the 4X400 team of Stephanie McIntyre (60.4), Eve Mizerak (60.3), Rebecca Russo (62.9), and Jessie Boynton (57.7) ran 4:01.57 to break their own school record by 2 seconds. On day two, the same quartet ran 1:45.99 to again break their own record by 2 seconds. Splits were McIntyre (27.1), Mizerak (25.7), Russo (27.4), and Boynton (25.6). Boynton also ran a strong race in the individual 400 (58.71) to place 26th out of 53 athletes.

The Vikings performed well at their last official indoor meet of the season. Leading the way for the boys was John Viotto's 9th place finish in the shot put with a PR toss of 51-3.5! Jeremy Guzman made it to the semis in the 55 with a season-best 6.69, and Miguel Akena ran a PR of 6.95 while also leaping 40-5 in the triple jump. Emery Greenfield ran 52.74 in the 400, and Billy Ricketts hit 6-0 in the high jump.
For the girls, the 4X200 team of Stephanie McIntyre, Eve Mizerak, Rebecca Russo and Jessie Boynton ran 1:47.91 to break the indoor school record! The race was run from the wrong starting line, however, making their time slower than it should have been. Boynton also finished 9th in the 400 in 58.54, close to a PR. McIntyre and Mizerak also competed in the 200, running 26.65 and 26.89, respectively.

2/18/2006 Poreda Invitational 0 South Brunswick 0 Sprint Medleys and High Jumpers Lead the Way
The Vikings had many great performances on Saturday at Lawrenceville, notably the sprint medley teams and the high jumpers. For the girls, the team of Eve Mizerak (26.8), Rebecca Russo (27.5 PR), Jessie Boynton (57.7 PR) and Stephanie McIntyre (2:24.0 PR) ran 4:16.0 to take third place. The time also qualified them for nationals, and broke both the indoor and outdoor school records. Russo also tied her PR in the high jump at 5-0 to take 4th place. In addition, Falen Watson set a new PR of 9.4 in the 55 Hurdles.
On the boys side, Billy Ricketts jumped 6-0 to take 2nd place. The sprint medley team of Jeremy Guzman (23.0), Miguel Akena (24.0), Kris Raghavan (53.3), and Emery Greenfield (2:03.0 indoor PR) finished 3rd in a time of 3:43.3, which broke the existing indoor school record.

2/6/2006 Varsity Classic 0 South Brunswick 0 Nationals Qualifiers Highlight Varsity Classic
The Vikings returned to the NY Armory Monday and turned in many outstanding performances. Leading the way was the girls 4X400 team that qualified for nationals and set a new indoor school record. The team of Stephanie McIntyre (60.4 PR), Eve Mizerak (60.7), Rebecca Russo (63.2 PR), and Jessie Boynton (59.2) ran 4:03.5 to break the record set last Friday. Boynton also ran a great race to finish 3rd in the 400 in 58.1. This time broke her own school record and qualified her for nationals.
For the boys, Billy Ricketts high jumped 6-2 to set a new personal best and finish 3rd. Emery Greenfield ran a strong race in the 400, finishing 7th in 51.4 and establishing a new indoor school record in the process. Jeremy Guzman finished 6th in the 55 in 6.7.

The Viking boys finished 4th and the girls 5th at the GMC Championships in Jersey City, but there were many outstanding performances for each team.
Leading the way for the boys were first place finishes by John Viotto in the shot put (50-9) and the 4X400 team of Emery Greenfield (53.0), Miguel Akena (54.2), Chris Greco (53.7) and Jeremy Guzman (52.5) that ran 3:33.59.
For the girls, the top finishes were 2nd places by Jessie Boynton in the 400 (59.04, breaks her own indoor school record), Stephanie McIntyre in the 800 (2:25.97 PR), and the 4X400 team of McIntyre (61.1 PR), Eve Mizerak (61.2), Stephanie Rodriguez (61.7 PR), and Boynton (59.9) that ran 4:04.12 to set a new indoor school record.

Two medalists, one Meet of Champs wildcard, and a school record! The Viking performances at the State Meet were highlighted by John Viotto's 2nd place PR throw of 50-9.25 in the shot put. On the girls side, Jessie Boynton ran an indoor school record of 60.31 to finish 5th in the 400. All finishers in the top-6 advance to the Meet of Champions. In addition, Jeremy Guzman advanced as a wildcard in the 55 with his time of 6.85 (6.78 trials).

The Vikings dominated the boys 4X800 at the Jersey City Armory. In the freshman division, the team of Matt Boley, Kevin O'Laughlin, Jonathan Bellizio, and Dan Medell ran 9:36.6 to take home the gold. In the novice division, Rishi Mathur, Jimmy Maloney, John Liptak, and Chris LaCorte ran 9:10 to win gold.
The only medal winning performance for the girls was Sharon Liu finishing 4th in the 55 Hurdles with a PR of 10.2.

1/14/2006 Stanner Games 0 South Brunswick 0 5 School Records Broken at Stanner Games!
The Vikings had a great day at the Stanner Games, setting many new PRs and breaking 5 school records. On the boys side, Miguel Akena ran a new school record of 37.84 in the 300, and also became the first male athlete in school history to triple jump indoors, setting a new record and PR of 41-3. For the girls, the 4X200 team of Eve Mizerak, Stephanie McIntyre, Danielle Hudak, and Jessie Boynton set a new indoor record of 1:48.31. Boynton also ran a school and county record of 42.43 in the 300, and McIntyre duplicated Akena's feat by becoming the first female in school history to triple jump indoors, leaping 33-7.25. The Viking boys and girls teams each scored in all 8 events. The boys finished 2nd overall with 47 points to Old Bridge (74 points), while the girls team finished 3rd with 43 points in a close battle with Old Bridge (49) and Piscataway (43). GMC Relay 1st place finishes went to the boys shot put team of Joe Johnson and John Viotto, and the girls 4X800 team of Stephanie McIntyre, Stephanie Rodriguez, Jess Engel, and Jessie Boynton. The freshmen and sophomores opened the season with several medal winning performances. Great job by all who competed.
Boys Highlights: TJ Taikina finished 3rd in the soph HJ (5-6) and 5th in the 55 Hurdles (8.7).
Girls Highlights: Rebecca Russo won the soph HJ with a height of 4-10. Stephanie Greco finished 2nd in the frosh SP with a toss of 24-10.5.
